As the days become shorter and we start the ritual of covering our plants at night and pressure washing boats for storage, we want to take a moment to give thanks to the summer. 2020 has been nothing we expected, but those warm sunny days on the lake was just what we needed. It also felt good to see our members - even though it was from a distance - we loved seeing your smiling faces. The bricks and mortar of the RBYC has changed over the years but the importance of our mem...bers has always remained. And this year, more than ever, we were reminded of how lucky we are to have a wonderful community at the beach. THANK YOU summer and to all those who were part of our summer! And if you have a chance to get out and enjoy some of our beautiful fall days on the lake, be sure to drop by as well!
Back in the day, few people had a boat of their own but you could always catch a trip up the lake on the Mona, Cheewana, Edith, Rosa or Empress. It might cost you 50 cents for a ride to Kedleston Beach or a cruise to Pelican Point, but it was well worth it! These boats were thought of as local celebrities. The RBYC has a history rich in boats! Spray, Rube and the Thistle just to name a few. There’s a story behind every boat and a meaning built into every name . Please comment below of a boat that has been or is part of the club today. If you haven’t given your boat a name yet, please do and share it below as well. It’s part of our story!
The social scene at the RBYC has always centred around families. Many of our members have grown up here and it is family & community that are very much at the heart of what makes our club so special. Summer after summer, families have planned their weekends & holidays around the social activity scheduled at the yacht club. Whether joining in a regatta, the greased watermelon competition, canoe jousting or dancing on the dock to a live band, there is sure to be laughs, cheer...s and big smiles all around! As we head into the Canada Day long weekend, we are sad that our annual Lloyd Barber Memorial Canada Day fireworks will not happen on July 1st. We are however, truly thankful for all of the families that have given us so many wonderful memories over the years and keep us reminiscing & smiling during this time. We thought these old photos would make you smile as well! Be sure to comment below if you recognize anyone . Happy Canada Day .

Last mountain Lake has drawn people to Regina Beach for years. Welcoming thousands of visitors in the summer months, Regina Beach is a bustling resort town and has become a wonderful destination for families and friends on warm summer days. The Regina Beach Yacht Club has a magical view of the beach where kids play and frolic in the sand, spending hours making sand castles and then cooling down by splashing in the lake. It is a view of pure joy. While this season has had a slow start to visitors, we are hopeful the beach will be bustling again soon!! If you look closely at this old photo of the beach, you can see the RBYC tucked into the background.
The RBYC has been a part of the Regina Beach community since it was established in 1913 and we’re proud to be one of the oldest private member sailing facilities in western Canada. Boating was a lot of work in those days and many built their own boats. Wood, sand caulk, paint, manila ropes to prepare, oars, oar locks...this snapshot of the Old Yacht Club - pre 1920’s shows family at heart of the activity....as is still the case today!
As we open the gate for the 2020 season and welcome boaters back to the RBYC, there are many things that will feel different this year. The Upper Deck is closed for now and we are unsure if we will be able to host any of our wonderful social events. This is disappointing for all of us as many members look forward to the social aspects of the RBYC. And while we may not be able to connect socially, we are going to celebrate the club and YOU through a series of historical photos here. We want to look back over the years and showcase the wonderful place the RBYC has become, not only within the community but in planning for the summer months for so many families. To start off, here is an image of the RBYC as was built in 1936. Please share any stories below!
