Sara Edwards of SE Equestrian in Collingwood Sara always puts the horses first and nothing changed with this during the pandemic. Her positive energy and outlook guide her to ensure her horses have the best care at all times. Sara always has a kind and positive word for her students. She thrives on her passion to teach young riders to be responsible horse people and leads by example by showing them what it takes to care for them daily. Thank you Sara, and team, for all that you do for the horses in your care. @sara.edwards.39

By the Love of Horses explores the documentary Mustang Saviors, by David Glossberg, who masterfully tells the intertwined stories of mustangs and war veterans, teenagers and children, all at risk in their own ways, all having at times been traumatised themselves and, in a profoundly beautiful way, needing and helping each other.

Olivia Wentworth-Stanley is a highly decorated dressage rider, trainer and coach and was nominated by Susan Kelly for going beyond the call of duty to maintain the excellent care and training of the horses at High Wyck Farms. Olivia has very high standards of care and despite the pandemic this did not take a back seat. She and her staff continued to ensure that the horses were well looked after, boarders were well communicated with and made time to give each horse some specia...l attention. At the beginning of the lockdown in March, Olivia posted No facility owner wants to separate our clients from their horses. We want to keep teaching and training and believe me, we love to see our clients happy and enjoying their horses. Sadly, these are unprecedented times and we are simply trying to keep everyone safe . @highwyckfarms @oliviawsdressage See more

Lori Shaw of Sunbridge Equestrian in Heathcote Lori is the owner/operator and coach at Sunbridge Equestrian. She was nominated as her efforts in caring for the boarder horses and school horses during the pandemic have been far over and above what is expected. She truly puts her heart and soul into the care of our horses. When one horse became quite sick she had to make an emergency trip to Guelph without any assistance. She will spend her own personal time caring for horses with special needs during times of illness, including sleepless nights and going without meals herself. She continually gives to the horses first, before looking after herself. Her students and boarders say she is a fantastic coach and trainer. @sunbridgeequestrian

On Sunday December 20th, we will explore some of the ways in which the horse makes its appearance during the Holiday Season and does so in ways that brings us c...heer. To do this, you might say that we have invited a number of different guests. We have invited artists who are poets, authors and song writers to join us. Allesha Mitchell, Harmony Ridge Equestrian, Thornbury area Hello, I am the manager and coach at Harmony Ridge just outside of Thornbury, ON. First of all, I want to say thank you for creating a program to recognise those that are typically behind the scenes in the horse world. I think barn workers are typically unrecognised and it's great to see an initiative to change that! I have personally made my way up in the industry through grooming, and working student positions and I... don't think you can appreciate the work that goes into it unless you have done it! Secondly, I want to nominate my staff team member Allesha Mitchell for the Red Scarf Equestrian Award. Allesha has gone above and beyond to provide optimal care for our horses throughout the pandemic, and has done so with a smile on her face each and every day. There was a period of time that we did close our barn to everyone except essential staff during the beginning of covid and Allesha made sure to take regular photos and videos of each owner's horse to send to them to help ease the difficulty of not being able to visit. As well as catering to the usually extras the owners would provide for the horses, like a favourite treat or a getting a special itchy spot. During a recent staffing shortage Allesha stepped up while we searched for another person to add to our team. Allesha pulled 12 hour shifts and double shifts without once complaining as she knew that it just needed to be done and the care of the horses came first. One day, after this had gone on for about two weeks, I asked her how she was doing and if she needed some time off to rest, as she typically would have a day off each week and that hadn't been able to happen. Her response was to the effect of "I would love to have a day off each week again at some point, but I know we are all pitching in extra right now, so I am doing okay!". It's uncommon for any one to visit Harmony Ridge for any length of time and not comment to me privately how wonderful and friendly the service Allesha provided was. When one of my boarders saw the article on Collingwood Today and sent it to the group, it was an unanimous decision that Allesha deserves this recognition. She is the epitome of consistent high quality work paired with a positive attitude. We feel lucky to have her with us and she certainly brightens our barn, both for the horses who love her, and the people who get to see her cheerful face whenever they visit Harmony Ridge. All the best, Kellie Sybersma

YORK Equestrian Riding School - Olivia We chose Olivia as one of our recipients for the Red Scarf Giveaway! Olivia is a relatively new addition to York Equestrian. Since arriving at York, Olivia has been keen to continue her horse education both in the saddle and around the barn. When the shutdown was lifted back in June, we were a little short staffed and had many new protocols to work through due to COVID-19. At this time Olivia began to volunteer with us which helped... us transition into this new normal. Olivia also volunteered during out summer camp this year with great enthusiasm! She is wonderful with the kids and has learn a lot through her volunteer experience. Olivia is continuing her education by working towards her Equestrian Canada Rider Levels. We are so happy that with the help of Red Scarf Equestrian we are able to recognise Olivia’s contributions to York Equestrian Riding School! Thank you! See more

Rossland Stables. Cynthia is the owner/operator and Coach at Rossland. I, Samantha King, personally nominated her as I know what she has gone through to accommodate her staff, students, boarders and external support team (vets, farriers, chiropractors and massage therapists) during the pandemic. She takes others needs and concerns before her own to ensure her customers and supports are happy and comfortable. She regularly sacrifices her personal time to help others and in... fact, decided to donate the coat she was gifted to a teen in need in her community of Ajax. Cynthia consistently demonstrates how selfless she is. Joy was a big help to Cynthia in putting together a schedule for riding times for all boarders and students during the height of the pandemic. Although we couldn’t have lessons we still needed to ride and tend to the care of our horses. This was no small feat and brought about many frustrations, but Joy kept a sense of humour and communicated with all of us extremely well. Meygan is the barn manager at Rossland and of course, during the pandemic, this was more challenging than usual. She continued with her regular duties and had to take on extra tasks to help care for horses when their owners could not be present due to COVID19. She managed to keep the horses, boarders, and Cynthia, in good care and happy. Pictured here (L to R) are Joy Williams, Cynthia Frise and Meygan Chambers.

The vote was unanimous... everyone at Stonewood agrees that these three ladies constantly have gone above and beyond throughout the pandemic; not only helping out in any way they could, but also in helping others. They are true role models and we would love to have them be recipients of these generous gifts. Pictured here (l to r) are Karolina Brims, Brandon Hall ( as a representative of Stonewood), Isabelle Humphries and Abbey Neath.

YORK Equestrian Riding School - Bron Bronwyn has been a part of the hard-working York staff for several years. Bron was chosen as part of the Red Scarf giveaway for her dedication to the horses. Bron is one of those behind the scenes staff members. Her contributions although sometimes unseen would most definitely be missed if she wasn’t around. At the the beginning of the pandemic when we were shut down Bron continued to work all the way through making sure the horses standard of care did not change due to the disruption to our busy riding business. Since we’ve re-opened Bron has continued to work and embraced the new normal with the change in protocols with great professionalism. Thank you, Red Scarf Equestrian, for helping us recognise Bron’s contributions to York Equestrian!

YORK Equestrian Riding School - Megan Megan is a familiar face at York Equestrian! She started as a riding school student at a young age and now leases and shows on the A-circuit with us! We chose Megan as a recipient to show our appreciation of her wonderful and infectious enthusiasm. We can always count on Megan to have a smile and a willingness to get to work. At the beginning of the pandemic Megan was eager to continue working and picking up extra hours to help make sure that the horses still had their standard of care they were used to regardless of the disruption. Megan was also had a big presence during our summer camp this year! Megan is working hard to become an instructor here at York. Thank you, Red Scarf Equestrian, for the opportunity to recognise Megan for all she does for us here at York Equestrian!

The Royal Winter Fair will be Virtual this year! While it is a difficult time for everyone: for individuals, for families, for schools, for businesses, for eque...strian events and winter fairs, the RWF has shown leadership and recognised that things are not as we would like them to be. By cancelling this year’s Fair and taking it online, in the confidence that doing so will keep its supporters and staff safe and enable all to reunite in 2021. Since its inception in 1922, The RWF has only been cancelled once before, the first time was under the difficulties surrounding the Second World War. On November 8th, joining us to talk about the RWF and this years Virtual Experience, is Christine Reupke. See more

There has always been a special sense of romance associated with a horse drawn carriage whisking the Bride and Groom away from their wedding. On this week's program we explore that special sense of romance and the magic of the horse in in the folklore of Cinderella. The romance of the horse drawn carriage was evident on the occasion of Kate and William's departure from Westminster Abbey. Joining us for this program will be Laura of Sentinel Carriages in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
