We are excited to have completed another concept design through the Stella Conceptual Drawing Grant program from Parks Foundation Calgary, this design was applied for and awarded to the Capitol Hill Community Association ... After engaging with the various stakeholders to learn their core goals, we mapped out the ecological realities of the site, which is a well used and loved inner city park space. All of this information was synthesized into a concept design that will lead ...to a unified park space where children can play, the community can grow local food, and beautiful native plant communities generate much needed habitat for wildlife. I’ve been reading a book called ‘Nature's Best Hope: A New Approach to Conservation that Starts in Your Yard’ by Douglas Tallamy, which about how humans’ landscaping efforts can have what he regards as a significantly positive impact on wildlife populations, especially insects and birds, which are two groups of creatures that are disappearing quite fast. Even before reading this book, we’ve been investing a huge amount of time learning how to do ...land design and design plant communities that have a deeper ecological function, alongside landscaping goals. Having read this book, I’m feeling an even greater charge for using design to work with people and groups for one of the most meaningful aspects of permaculture I can imagine... to build and reestablish habitat for other living things where humans have reshaped the land. Thankful for the book, as it’s going to certainly bolster our design practice! See more

reGenerate just upgraded to the newest version of the Vectorworks CAD landscape design software and pretty excited about the new tools it has for ecological design! We are studiously learning the new workflows!

Some fall shots of another fabulous front yard food forest transformation this year with @garrettcontracting_ltd ... swipe to the end to see the Woody plant design & ‘before’ shot. The steep slope, overgrown evergreens, and warping treated-wood retaining walls are replaced with functional and beautiful natural Kootenay stone boulder walls and staircase. The front wall is pulled back from the sidewalk and main access moved to the middle of the lot, which creates a more inviting and open space.
