Our feeds are always full of cute eco swaps and beautiful products but often the best things you can do aren't made for instagram! Reusing what you already have rather than buying more stuff is one of the best things you can do to be more sustainable. Thanks @gogreensavegreen on instagram for the photo! Share with us below some not-so-cute moments in your sustainability journey!

Even though you may not personally feel affected by human trafficking, it is still your responsibility to help combat it. Why? Because "injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." Thanks to the Green Project Grant from Green Economy London and the wonderful team at Argent Electrical, as of last week we now have an Electric Vehicle charger at 206 Piccadilly St! It was wonderful to see one of our customers use the charger on the very first day it was installed This not only allows us to charge up our plug-in hybrid electric vehicle for deliveries, but also enables community members and shoppers to charge their electric vehicles as well - completely free of charge! This project, combined with our existing bike racks, means more sustainable transportation to and from the store Will you be using our EV charger or bike rack?! Tell us what you think in the comments!

Help prevent food waste! Not confusing best before with expired will lead to these three things; you’ll waste less food, you’ll save money, and you’ll avoid sending food waste to the landfill, which contributes to increasing methane emissions. Thanks to @b12give on instagram for this great graphic! Check out lovefoodhatewaste.ca for more info on how long you can keep foods! Which foods surprised you with how long they last?

Without packaging it can sometimes be hard to remember what you filled your jar with! Here are a few ways to help you remember what you bought! Write it on the jar. Use a wax pencil or if you are using the same jar next time try sharpie! Use a label. You can print your own or use a chalk label to use over and over again.... Make a list. Write down what you are bringing on paper or you could take photos of each item on your phone. Use the same container. Bring an old soy sauce bottle for your soy sauce, or detergent jug for your laundry detergent. Save this post to remember these tips and tricks!

As another year comes to a close we often reflect on what has passed. This is a gentle reminder that as you count your accomplishments the most beautiful one of all is that you’re still here. In this time of reflection be kind to yourself and others, you are enough.

Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance: a time to remember and honour those whose lives have been lost to anti-transgender violence. According to @humanrightscampaign: "2020 has already seen at least 34 transgender or gender non-conforming people fatally shot or killed by other violent means, the majority of which were Black and Latinx transgender women. We say at least because too often these stories go unreported -- or misreported." Today and everyday, let's remember to s...upport transgender individuals, and continue to fight for structural changes to be made to ensure safety for the trans community. Happy Diwali! This joyous day usually associated with family, feasting and fireworks looks very different this year as the pandemic forces Hindus, Jains and Sikhs across the world to celebrate virtually or celebrate alone. Lonely holidays like today can make lockdown feel even harder and more desperate, but let us have faith that together we will overcome this virus, just as Diwali teaches us that light triumphs over darkness, good over evil, knowledge over ignorance. Just a...s Lord Rama and Queen Sita found their way home after defeating the demon king Ravan, their way lit by millions of lamps, so too shall we find our way through this, we will triumph over the virus and in its wake we will reimagine how we live and co-create the more beautiful world our hearts know is possible. Happy Diwali to you all, and best wishes for a healthy and happy new year Photo by @nookscribe via @pexels

It’s food waste tip time again! Did you know you can grow your own sprouts with just a glass jar, elastic band, some muslin cloth, a bowl, and sprouting seeds? @ourecofriendlylife shared this awesome recipe that we absolutely love! Take a teaspoon of sprouting seeds and put them in a clean class jar Cover the opening of the jar with a piece of muslin cloth and secure it with the elastic band Pour water into the jar and allow the seeds to soak in it overnight... In the morning, strain the water and then give the seeds a rinse with fresh water and strain that out as well! Leave the jar in a bowl to sit on a tilted angle to allow any remaining water to filter out. Be sure to leave your jar near a window but not in direct sunlight! Rinse and drain with the above steps until you’ve got a jar of fresh sprouts! Store in the fridge and consume within 3 days! Have you tried this before? Do you think you will? Let us know in the comments

We couldn’t agree more with this statement - we can’t let Covid make us forget. That’s why when our new store is fully renovated, we will be using the back half as a space for community events and sustainability workshops - while maintaining social distancing and also offering online and outdoor events. We want to expand our current efforts around education and community engagement and the new space is going to become a hub where we can continue to offer free workshops, repair cafés and other gatherings, and provide a free-to-use accessible place for others in our community to hold events centered on sustainability or community. If this is something you want to support, please visit reimaginegroceries.ca

Happy Thanksgiving! This long weekend that we traditionally spend enjoying the company of loved ones looks a little different this year. Let’s use this as an opportunity to reflect on the historical and ongoing colonization of Indigenous lands and people. Swipe to read how you can begin to #decolonize your Thanksgiving.... While Thanksgiving is often seen to be a celebration of gratitude, family and the gifts of the harvest, it is important to acknowledge the violent roots of this day. Thanksgiving is also a representation of the history of murder, enslavement, displacement, and violence against Indigenous populations. It is vital that we practice being good ancestors. We can’t undo Canada’s legacy of cultural and literal genocide, but we can learn how to be less harmful, how we can make reparations, and how to build a more harmonious world, together. Wow! Have you heard the latest news yet on the single-use plastic ban in Canada? While we're hopeful this will bring about change, we're worried. How big of an impact will these proposals really have? What is missing from the narrative? Is this greenwashing? Is there a way to target the largest producers of waste instead? All of our questions will be raised when we participate in the government's consultation process on this issue, and we will be submitting a paper addressing these concerns as well. What are your concerns? What do you want to see in the consultation process? Do you think this is a win for the environment?

There is no normal to which we can return. We live in abnormal times, they demand an abnormal response -George Monbiot We so desperately need a new normal. A normal that supports a #JustRecoveryForAll, one that combats climate change, inequality, and systemic oppression. We’re trying to reimagine normal with a grocery store that is package-free. How are you reimagining normal in your life? How has COVID impacted your ability to fight climate change, inequality, and systemic oppression? Let’s talk in the comments If you want to support our version of a new normal, visit us at www.reimaginegroceries.ca to donate or learn more about our campaign.
