Outdoor ice skating is a popular activity in the park. Parks Canada does NOT monitor natural ice surfaces for safety or mark potential hazards. Many environmental factors affect the thickness of the ice. If you choose to skate on natural ice, you do so at your own risk. The recommended ice thickness is 15 cm for walking or skating alone and 20 cm for skating parties or games. #RidingNP Clear Lake Country - Riding Mountain National Park Friends Of Riding Mountain National Par...k Manitoba https://www.dauphin.ca/ For more information visit: https://www.pc.gc.ca//rid/securite-safety/patinage-skating Rescue services during this season could be limited or delayed. Here are a few crucial things that you need to do in order to keep you and wildlife safe during the fall trail season. Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times, leave your earbuds in the car, travel in a group if possible, and stay aware of your surroundings. We have our favourite podcasts and playlists too, and as tempting as it is to tune in while hiking, biking and running; it's safer for you and wildlife to save it until you are off the trail. Play safe! To learn more about outdoor safety visit: https://www.adventuresmart.ca/

Camping this weekend? Bringing in some of your own firewood? It’s no big deal, right? Wrong! Moving firewood transports tree-killing insects and diseases. Take a look at this diseased and dying Elm tree on the left; just down from a healthy Elm tree on the right, located right in the Wasagaming Campground. You have the power to prevent this terrible problem from ever happening by only using firewood provided by us here at @RidingNP, and tell your friends about this as well.... Celebrating #WildlifeWednesday with this amazing photo of seven eagles taken from a trail camera within the park. Eagles tend to migrate in groups, but it is unlikely that this is a family group. Rather, it is probably a multi-age flock of eagles migrating together. The name, bald eagle, refers to the white plumage on the head of the adult eagles. When eagles are born, their feathers are grey, but eventually, begin to turn brown when they are ready to leave their nests. After... about four years, the feathers on the head of the eagles finally begin turning white. Although the eagles in this photo are not likely nesting in this area, Riding Mountain does have its fair share of eagle nests. The bald eagle, with a wingspan of over two metres, making it the largest bird in this area, is a magnificent animal. We are extremely privileged to be home to such marvelous creatures. For this reason, among many others, if you see an eagle or even just a nest, we encourage you to admire them from afar. We all must do our part to ensure the safety and longevity of these beautiful animals.
