I missed taking photos of all the steps leading up to this point so basically this photo represents the following: Step 1: remove skins from tomatoes Step 2: ???????? Step 3: salsa... #canningoverload #toomanytomatoes #myfeetarekillingme
Adventures in tomato sauce making. @thecawstonmarketfarmer Ken comes through again with gorgeous heirloom and roma tomatoes. I'm not sure if it's the fact that I've been on a water fast since Friday, but the little taste I had was mind-blowingly delicious. First two batches processed, one simmering on the stove. Tomorrow I'm making salsa. #homecanning #kitchenwitch
Final project for the day... my feet are screaming! Cukes from @thecawstonmarketfarmer ( shout out to Ken and his family for the most amazing cukes. Not a single cucumber was poor quality. 100% awesome 10/10). I started by laco-fermenting a bunch, and then ended with some traditional brine pickles. I still have the larger cukes to do, and I'll slice those up for burger pickles. Bonus shot of an experiment- taking the dill stems I usually compost and putting them into vinegar to see if it can be used for dressings and such. I'll let you know how that goes. Long day, tired feet and sore back, but very happy with the end result. I'll do more next week. Because I'm more than a little crazy.
Second completed project today - spicy lacto-fermented beans. Looking forward to some Cesar's when these are ready... that is as long as @andi156 doesn't get to them first.
First project completed today - roasted tomato basil butter. It's.... good. Like.... so good. #summertomatoes
Hey guys! Its been a hot minute hasn't it? I'm starting to feel the urge to make goodies again, starting with these gorgeous cherries. I'm still struggling with chronic pain and all the fun that goes along with it, but when Ken at @thecawstonmarketfarmer says he has cherries, the only reasonable thing to do is buy 20 lbs and booze those things up.... I'm going to keep it a bit more straight forward and make Amaretto and Makers Mark Bourbon this year. My kitchen smells amazing.
Keeps getting cut off... I talk too much maybe? Kohlrabi is also from @lauricafarm. On a side note, Laurica Farm is having an amazing event next week. Longtable dinner and live Bluegrass music! Chef @chef_adrian_beaty is cooking and it's going to be delicious. #loctofermentation #knowyourfarmer
Fermented carrot test. First time doing this. I'll let you know how it goes in a couple of weeks!
Boozy cherries done! Now to let them sit for a couple of months to reach peak perfection. Offering Amaretto, Bourbon, Kahlua and Coffee Liqueur flavours. #kitchenwitch #boozycherries #ritamakesyummythings

This. Is. Beautiful. Almost ready to move to the fridge. #ritamakesyummythings #fermentation #lactofermentedpickles
Today I made a big mistake. I said to myself, "Self, you can totally process 60 lbs of cucumbers." I was wrong. I'll keep plugging away but damn gurl, what was I thinking???!... Started with fermented pickles, then I'll move onto the canned ones. Next week's batch will be some bread & butters. #ritamakesyummythings #picklepalooza
