Tomorrow is #bellletstalk . TSN, Team Canada / Équipe Canada and I worked together on a piece sharing my experiences with anxiety. I was nervous about doing this at first but recognize that it is an opportunity to continue a very important discussion around mental health. My experience doesn’t define me and while it creates challenge at times, it is also a part of the reason why I am who I am and have been able to accomplish what I have. It took my experience in sport to r...ecognize and acknowledge what it was but it is through sport, with a community of support around me, that I have learned about anxiety and how to manage it. Over time, with help of others, I’ve learned a number of strategies to help calm my mind and my body. I’ve learned that it’s possible to not only cope, but thrive. After the launch of the piece, and over the next few days, I will do my best to share more about my experience. Stay tuned for As Long As I Breathe and thank you to @tsn_official and @teamcanada for helping me share my story and your support through the experience. See more

Sport is about the lessons you learn and the community you build. It’s about connecting with those around you, learning from each other, encouraging each other and growing together. It’s about inclusion- giving everyone the opportunity to participate. It’s about working together to overcome obstacles and challenges, turning those experiences into opportunity. It provides access to mentors that can share their experiences both on and off the field of play. It teaches the skills to lead a healthy and active life. I’m grateful to sport for so many reasons but a big one is that people who I have met across this incredible country. #sportforCanada Team Canada / Équipe Canada

When you choose to live your life in the arena, you are going to get your ass kicked. You will fall and you will know failure. (Brene Brown) Two weeks ago I got my ass kicked. I crashed at the World Cup in Belarus and broke my ankle. I had all these plans for how I would use this time between World Cups but have been pushed to rethink it, come up with new plans, and get creative. I’m fortunate to be surrounded by incredible support that help me focus on what I can do each d...ay to make progress, keeping me focused. I choose sport because I love it. I love sport because sometimes you get this incredible momentum and sometimes you are confronted with a situation that forces you to dig deep, adapt, create new plans and new strategies. These challenges and obstacles are when you learn the most. My goals have not changed, but the path I will take will be different. There are 19 weeks until we head back to the World Cup circuit that qualifies for Tokyo 2020. Through the process, I’m sure I will experience doubt, frustration, and a bumpy path but my goal is to come out stronger and better for it. Bring it on. See more
