Every Canadian deserves a safe and affordable place to call home - a place to live, to raise their families, and build their future. The COVID-19 pandemic has made our homes all that more important - a place to shelter and to isolate.... That is why our Government made an historic investment into affordable housing in Peel earlier this year, why we introduced the Rapid Housing Initiative, and why we supported affordable housing project partnerships like the one with Bramalea Christian Fellowship. #NationalHousingDay

Extreme weather events, like this weekend, are becoming more frequent and more intense. To better protect Brampton and to invest in our city's future economic potential, I joined Minister Catherine McKenna this morning to announce $38.8M for the transformative Riverwalk project that will remove flood risk and unlock 3.6 million square feet of residential, commercial and retail space in our downtown, creating more than 23,800 jobs and a $1.4 billion impact on the GDP! #ForwardForBrampton #BuildUp #SustainableFuture

Effective today, through the ArriveCAN app, all travellers entering Canada will be required to provide their quarantine plans digitally and throughout their quarantine, report their symptoms daily. This will elimination paper data collection and ensure smooth and quick data flow to Public Health.

Green Light for the Leaders Debates Commission! During elections, leaders’ debates play a big role in helping Canadians engage with all of our political parties. These debates offer a forum for leaders to inform Canadians about what their parties stand for and give more insight into their platforms and policies. Until the 2015 federal election, a group of Canada’s five major television networks organized the leaders’ debates until 2018, when the Leaders’ Debates Commission... (LDC) was created. The LDC is led by an independent commissioner and supported by a 7 member advisory board with the important mandate of organizing two leaders’ debates, one in French, and one in English. I am excited to hear that the LDC will remain in place and that the Right Honourable David Johnston has been reappointed to the position of Commissioner of the Leaders’ Debates Commission! Congratulations Mr. Johnston!

Since the start of the pandemic, we have listened to business owners and have responded to their needs. While the road to recovery may not be easy, our Federal Government’s supports are and will continue to be critical to help entrepreneurs survive and prevent businesses across Canada from closing their doors. As we get through this difficult time, we will continue to take action to support Canadian businesses, protect jobs, and set the stage for a stronger and more resilien...t Canada once the pandemic is over. Updated Statistics Canada job numbers show our labour market gaining another 84,000 jobs in October, bringing Canada’s unemployment rate down to 8.9%. This means over 2.3 million Canadians have returned to work after having lost their job or stopped working during the pandemic. These job numbers are a testament to the hard work and resiliency of Canadians in the face of this pandemic. Our Government remains committed to supporting Canadians as we recover and rebuild.
