Thank you SHS crew for getting the majority of the heavy snow off those buildings. When is the front half of the museum scheduled to get shovelled? We are happy to help.

So much snow and loving it!!!! Yesterday and today Hal & I snowshoed in and around Sandon to take gps coordinates and mapping sections that were affected by the May 31, 2020 flood for the engineer. Fingers crossed we will be able to start working on the remaining repairs this spring (before freshet) and throughout the summer. These are just some of the photos captured snowshoeing off the beaten path.... We highly recommend those who enjoy snow and snowshoeing to go off the beaten path and explore in and around Sandon still so much to see that many do not take the time to

Hope everyone is having a wonderful start to their day (and 2021). We would like to give a shout out to the Sandon Historical Society for shoveling the snow off the beautiful and historic Mercantile Brick Building (aka museum) this past week....WTG!!!! We, from experience, know how much work it is to maintain these historic buildings during the winter months and it is a lot of work shoveling snow. When done on a regular basis the work load is easier each time - staying on to...p of the snow shoveling is constant here in Sandon. Please SHS keep protecting this beautiful and historic building.

PLAY IN SANDON Snowmobilers, snowshoeers, skiers, sightseeers!!! Sandon is magnificent right now. Lots of snow for EVERYONE!!!... We have plowed out lots of parking (on the south side of the creek ~ across the bridge) - lots of room for turning around trailers. You are welcome to park on our land. All we ask is that you are respectful of others. Hal made a great bobsled run down the bottom part of Idaho FSR that will be fun for toboggans, gt’s, snowboards, etc. Come out and enjoy Sandon in the winter.

The middle building was the Livery Stables and it was saved due to discretion from the fire department and council as a necessity. This building eventually became the famous Reco Hotel. There is are two photos (looking west from above and ground) at the Kootenay Lake Archives #990-12-95 and #990-12-97 you can see these photos in the Silver, Lead & Hell ~ Story of Sandon by Veronika Pellowski. Only 3 downtown buildings survived and the outskirt buildings.... Major buildings that survived were Harris’s Sandon Generating Station, Livery Stable & Crawford & McMillans Carpentry shop with Masons lodge upstairs. Each of the buildings had a fire hydrant nearby as these buildings were situated on the major corner streets along Main Street. It is a very cool historic photo.

People don't notice whether it's winter or summer when they're happy." ~ Anton Chekhov 4.25 inches and still falling . Winter in Sandon is gorgeous and a beautiful place to live, camp, play or visit for a day. You can sled, ski & snowshoe pretty much everywhere. ... What a cool photo. Hal thinks this photo was taken winter 53/54 due the fact the Miner’s Union Block was demolished prior to the 1955 washout. This photo is looking west down the Main Street & Reco Ave - along Reco Ave opposite of the Sandon Generating Station.
