PORT HURON FLOAT DOWN (2020) SARNIA, ON SUNDAY AUGUST 16, 2020 The Port Huron Float Down is an annual event that takes place on the St. Clair River where partic...ipants navigate down the river in flotation devices, beginning from PortHuron, Michigan and ending at Marysville, Michigan. The floaters taking part in this event pose a potential navigational hazard for commercial and recreational users on the St. Clair River during the course of the event. Although participants are meant to be confined to the American side of the river, rafts may end up being pushed over to the Canadian side by wind or strong currents. Transport Canada has learned that this year's event is scheduled for August 16,2020. The Department does not endorse this event; however, Transport Canada has taken steps to ensure the safety and security of operators using this waterway. This will include the Department's decision to exercise its authority under the Canada Marine Act to restrict the movement of vessel traffic within the Public Port of Sarnia during the Port Huron Float Down event on August 16, 2020. ln order to promote safe navigation,Transport Canada has exercised its authority under Sections 76 and 58 of the Canada Marine Act to restrict the movement of vessel traffic within the Public Port of Sarnia while this event takes place: From 12pm until 8pm This restricts all vessel traffic on the Canadian side of the St. Clair River, as the Port of Sarnia encompasses the Canadian section of the St. Clair River from the Blue Water Bridge to Lake St. Clair.
