This March, the SCDSB is offering a virtual after-school social skills development program to support students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The program will focus on using communication, problem solving, and teamwork. In partnership with Recreation Respite, the SCDSB will host one virtual session on Tuesday, March 9. Alma Thomas was a famous artist best known for her colourful and abstract paintings. As an activity to recognize Black History Month, students at Fieldcrest Elementary School created their own artwork inspired by Alma Thomas! Well done, Falcons!

This will be an opportunity for all incoming Grade 8 students and their families to learn about the fantastic programs offered at BDHS and to ask questions about specific courses and pathways. On January 7, the Ontario government announced an extension to the elementary school closure period in response to COVID-19. As such, all Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) elementary schools will remain closed and elementary students will continue to participate in remote learning until January 22. At this time, students are expected to return to in-person learning on January 25. Secondary students will continue to participate in remote learning and are expected to ...return to in-person learning on January 25. SCDSB elementary educators will continue to provide instruction through their established virtual learning platforms and remain committed to ensuring that all students have the opportunity to learn during this extended school closure period. Parents/guardians of elementary students in special education classes will be contacted by their child’s teacher regarding programming options. Students currently enrolled in the Learn@Home program will continue to attend class virtually.

The SCDSB has partnered with The Rotary Club of Barrie giving a free book to Grade 2 students at 26 Barrie schools to promote literacy and good will! We truly value this community partnership and how we can come together to create positive, lasting change within our school communities.

Today is International Coffee Day! We thought we would share a fun fact with you about coffee. On June 15, 2019 a Guinness World Record was made for creating the largest cup of coffee in the world! It contained 22,739.14 litres and fifty people worked for more than a month on this to complete it!
