Its Groundhog Day! So the thinking is, if a groundhog emerging from its burrow on this day sees its shadow due to clear weather, it will retreat to its den and winter will persist for six more weeks; but if it does not see its shadow because of cloudiness, spring will arrive early!

'Au Pair means to be equal to. This indicates that you are more than just a care taker, but that you are part of the family you live with. Becoming an Au Pair was definitely not on my list of things to do in my lifetime, but travelling, living in a new city, and meeting new people from around the world has always been at the top of my list. Being an Au Pair can be exhausting and unglamorous at times. In the Au Pair community we joke about how during the week we look slightl...y dishevelled, hair tied up, dirty clothes from chasing kids around, answering all the why is the sky blue? questions that kids ask; yet you would never know it based on the pictures we post ha! But we live for it because we know that when we get that weekend, that free day, or free evening - the adventures we moved to a new country for continue. Adventures of exploring, of meeting new people from around the globe, of embracing the unknown. We also talk about how we don’t know what’s next. We talk about how we miss home, we miss our friends and our families. But know we are right where we’re suppose to be. How we’re getting older and we might worry we should be settling down by now, but we have other dreams first. We get excited about the unknown, the discomfort, the growing and the becoming. This experience has allowed me to understand how vast the world is, and how small we can create our worlds if we don’t step out into what makes us uncomfortable - your discomfort doesn’t have to come from travel or living in a new city, but find out what it is that makes you uncomfortable and pursue it. 'Even after 2 years in the US (2015-2016) I felt I needed more. I travelled so much but still had things to learn. I’m very lucky to find my host family in Michigan, I feel part of the family, they do everything they can to make me comfortable and happy, it’s their first time hosting an Au Pair and I feel lucky to be my girls first love. My host family have shown me things that I never experienced before, this was my first time skiing and it was fun, but for a Brazilian like ...me it was out of my comfort zone, since we don’t have snow in Brazil. All I can tell everyone that wants to be an Au Pair.. you will find yourself being an Au Pair, you will make friends for life, you will have another family to call your second family. You will experience things you never experienced before, you will be out of your comfort zone, and it will be amazing! Virginia and Michigan are my home.
