Pianist Ethan Iverson, known for his work with - among other groups - The Bad Plus, and Billy Hart - put together an outstanding series of interviews to celebrate the centenary of Charlie Parker's birth. Among the things that comes up is this gem from John Scofield that is part of a conversation about the deficiencies of chord/scale theory: The older guys were like, learn the chords so you can play the changes. Playing the changes meant connecting the notes for the changes w...ith whatever the hell you want in between which ends up being scales doesn’t it but the chord tones give you the sound of the harmony. That interview and links to the rest of them are here: https://ethaniverson.com/john-scofield-on-charlie-parker/ Highly recommended.
Another great performance from David Zucchi. David has been a great advocate for new music and gives a nuanced and insightful performance to every piece he chooses. Here is something new from composer Brian Elias. https://davidzucchi.com/2020/10/24/brian-elias-arioso/
The past few months have been a tremendous challenge to musicians everywhere. But there has been a lot of creativity and perseverance on display in the musical community as well. SeaWind's Phil Dwyer was invited to take part in a special recording for Canada Day. Here is the result. https://www.youtube.com/watch
Check out David Zucchi’s new recording of Steve Reich’s New York Counterpoint - for 12 multi tracked saxophones (including his Seawind baritone sax)! Originally written for clarinet, this work was arranged for saxophones by American saxophonist Susan Fancher. https://soundcloud.com/david-zucch//new-york-counterpoint
SeaWind tenor serial #0001 getting a good workout last summer in Toronto.
SeaWind's own Phil Dwyer will be featured in a "sea to sea" ensemble under the direction of Christine Jensen, as part of the Ottawa Jazz Festival "virtual" presentation series. Tune in on Sunday night to hear Christine's great new chart on Both Sides Now. https://ottawajazzfestival.com/artists/sea-to-sea/
Phil Dwyer playing his SeaWind soprano here in the company of vocalist Diana Panton, and the great pianist Don Thompson. Enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T9JS8V8zy9o
Congrats to SeaWind artist Sean Irvine on this fantastic album. Great playing, great writing. Check it out.
Remi Bolduc has assembled several transcriptions from Charlie Parker's very early career. Great insight into one of the foremost musical minds of the last century. Thanks Remi!! https://www.youtube.com/playlist

Rick Margitza, the phenomenal Paris-based saxophonist, continues his excellent series of improvisation oriented practice suggestions. If you haven't had the pleasure of listening to Rick I would strongly encourage seeking out his many excellent recordings.
He's not a saxophone player, but he's almost cool enough to be one. Regardless, Chase Sanborn has been a leading educator for many years and always puts a unique spin on things...almost a special sauce - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SHj9t69s1zQ&feature=youtu.be
We are very proud to have musicians of the calibre of Sean Irvine playing our horns. Looking forward to the release of Sean's new recording in April. https://www.seanirvinewoodwinds.com/
Here is some very clear and concise information from our friend Ben Henriques that will be useful to any beginning-intermediate improvisor looking to expand their horizons. Thanks Ben! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bv1Q933gi5I&feature=youtu.be
Lots of great information from our friend Rick Margitza. I've had the pleasure of listening to Rick for 3 decades now (!); last time I heard him live was on a boat on the Seine! Thanks Rick.
