Shawna North Memorial Golf Tournament

As you know, the funds raised at the Shawna North Memorial Golf Tournament provide much needed scholarships and bursaries for Saskatchewan Polytechnic students. We have been keeping a close eye on the public health recommendations for the COVID-19 pandemic and how this affects our ability to gather together for this year’s tournament. Facing the realities of the situation, we have made the decision to reschedule the golf tournament date to Saturday, August 29, 2020. Our decis...ion to proceed with the golf tournament is two-fold we all wish to continue to honor our good friend and colleague Shawna, and the necessity for student bursaries is greater now than ever. So many Sask Polytech students have lost jobs, work placements and training opportunities. Numerous students are struggling to complete this academic year, and a great many will not be able to afford tuition and expenses to return to studies in the fall. Far more students will rely on some form of financial assistance, and a bursary can provide them with the help they need. As golf restrictions evolve, we will keep you updated on how the changes affect the tournament. For now, stay home, stay safe. We hope that you will join us on August 29th. March 14th will mark one year since Shawna North’s passing. We remember her as a devoted advocate and a powerful voice for equality and fairness. When she believed in a cause she was passionate about it and she always put the extra effort to helping people however she could. Shawna saw everyone as equal never making anyone feel they were of any less importance. ... She was taken from us far too early. We are honoring her legacy again this year by hosting the 2nd annual Shawna North Memorial Golf Tournament. Funds raised from the tournament support student bursaries and scholarships at Saskatchewan Polytechnic named in her honor. Student award programs help to remove the financial barriers that many students struggle to overcome. Access to and the ability to succeed in post-secondary education should be fair for all, and the #ShawnaNorthMemorial student awards are achieving this.
