Lauren loved having the opportunity to spend some time this morning with #SherrardTeamMember Melissa’s daughter, Madison, who was in our office to receive her appliance to correct her crossbite. We love having Melissa and Maddy as apart of our #SherrardFamily and are excited to be apart of Maddy’s smile journey. We can’t wait to see Maddy again soon! Maddy is only 6-years-old, but an early evaluation with Dr. Sherrard will give her the best opportunity for a healthier smile.... Did you know the Canadian Association of Orthodontics recommends that your child have an orthodontic check-up no later than age 7? By then, your child’s teeth have developed enough to where subtle problems can be spotted with jaw growth and emerging teeth. A consultation or second opinion at Sherrard Orthodontics is always free, and a referral is NOT required for you to schedule an appointment for your child.

We wanted to assure you that Sherrard Orthodontics is STILL open and implementing additional safety measures to ensure that our patients and staff are in the safest possible environment. Hey! Have you had the chance to meet Carly? If not, we’d like to introduce you! She is one of our newest members to join our administrative team. Carly has been a tremendous help with ensuring the safety of our patients and our team during this time. She calls all of our patients to conduct a COVID-19 pre-screening the day before their appointment. She also wipes down all of our Invisalign shipments once they arrive to ensure that your Invisalign is clean, disinfected, and ready for you at your appointment. Even behind the mask, Carly is always smiling. She has fit right in with the rest of our team - we are so happy she is apart of our #SherrardFamily.

Each year, we have the privilege of transforming more (and more!) smiles while adding additional team members to our family practice. We treat over 500 new Invisalign patients annually, and we were still able to do so in 2020, even though we were closed for a few months due to COVID. Because more people in New Brunswick trust Sherrard Orthodontics with their smiles, we continue to be the top Invisalign provider in the Maritimes. When we head into work each day, the safety of ...our patients and our staff is our number one priority. Our team has always followed strict everyday hygiene and sterilization practices. We have implemented additional measures to keep our patients, staff, and community safe while continuing to make New Brunswick smile. As our patients, team, and community continue to grow, we have outgrown the office at our Saint John location. We began operating out of the Quispamsis location on May 20, 2020, due to the pandemic. In order to follow the social distancing guidelines set out by the province, we’ve recognized that the Saint John office was too small to treat the volume of patients that we have. At the end of 2020, we decided to transition out of our Saint John space to focus on bringing you quality orthodontic care in the best space moving forward all year round. We are grateful to have one of the largest orthodontic spaces in our Quispamsis location, which allows us to be able to treat our patients efficiently and safely. Rather than spreading ourselves thin and giving you partial service at multiple locations, you can know that your team is here to serve you every day, Monday to Friday, at 1 location. Change is good. We can’t wait to make you smile in 2021.

Today we’re smiling because we’re sharing Colby’s journey to a new, healthy smile. Colby had his braces put on last week, and we are very excited to be a part of his smile journey. Yes were open!....kind of :) (please read fully) Every patient is important to us and we are working to schedule everyone in, but we must follow the guidelines from the province and our regulatory bodies. Our team has always taken pride in our every day strict hygiene and sterilization practices, and were prepared to implement the New Brunswick Dental Societys additional measures to keep you safe. Thankfully, we are privileged to have a very large space which makes it ea...sy to follow the social distancing guidelines etc. Starting on May 13, and for the rest of the month, we will be operating out of our Quispamsis office only, working with a lessened schedule and staff, and scheduling first those patients that we are required to schedule. You do not need to call to make an appointment, we are working to reach you. Please only call if you feel that you have a TRUE emergency as we need as many phone lines as possible free for calling everyone (including you) with a new appointment and details on how your appointment will be different than before the COVID-19 pandemic. The office will be locked at all times and walk-ins are not welcome at this time. We are working on rescheduling all patients based on priority of appointment. This may mean that although you were supposed to have an appointment during the closure, you may not require an in-office appointment right away. We will still be conducting many phone calls and virtual appointments. Our team is working tirelessly to ensure all of our patients are well cared for! The NBDS has mandated that offices must schedule any backlog of emergencies prior to scheduling non-emergency care. Keep in mind that although you, and we, might consider certain procedures emergencies, they are quite possibly not defined as emergencies according to the criteria (as much as youd love to get that loose bracket reglued, it will likely not meet the criteria for a true emergency or required urgent care). A second limiting factor that will limit who and how many people can be seen at any dental office this month is that governing society of dental hygienists (NBCDH) is currently suspending all hygienists licenses until they develop and distribute directives for their members that they deem appropriate. This will drastically decrease the manpower in the dental societys operational plan, and since almost every office in the province employs these highly skilled technicians, you can expect your dental office to have fewer openings than before closure. We remain committed as always to ensuring that our patients and team members are safe and thank you for your patience and understanding during these rapidly changing times. We cant wait to see you and your smile in person soon, and until then, please continue to be safe!

As a local small business, we have always been about serving families in our community. While many patients have relied on us for their orthodontic care, the families that we have the most direct impact on are the members of our orthodontic team. The 18 strong women that work alongside our doctors each have a family and story of their own. With the New Brunswick Dental Society (rightly) insisting that all non-emergency dental care cease immediately (until further notice), we ...are unable to start any new orthodontic treatment at this time. Although this prevents us from generating new income, we have adapted our treatment approach to allow for remote patient care (see previous post) and established a business model of flexible financing and monthly payments for everyone. By continuing service to our patients and generating income in this way, we are able to continue to support these 18 women and their families. We understand that many of our patients and their families rely on their own or other local businesses which may be suffering at this time. That being said, it is possible that this pandemic can affect someones ability to provide the basics for their family (rent, groceries etc.). If you end up in a situation where this applies to you, please reach out to us and we can make the necessary financial arrangements to help you through these times. Together, we are stronger. At Sherrard Orthodontics, we are thankful to be a family-centred business. Our team and business have grown to what they are today based on a steadfast commitment to doing what is best for our patients, and for the team members we have the privilege to work with every day. In that spirit, we will be closing our office for the week of March 16th due to the rapidly changing guidelines on Covid-19. During this time, we will continue to pay our dedicated team members. While the r...isks posed to the average person are minimal, we feel a great responsibility to ensure that we protect the elderly and immunocompromised by keeping the transmission rate low and our health care system effective and strong. During the next week we will be monitoring provincial and national guidelines while preparing and training our team in how to best protect themselves, our work families, and by extension, our patient families.
