Chritmas is almost upon us. When you purchase an item or bring in clothing donations for The Vineyard or Inn of the Good Shepherd you will get a ballot for a chance to win a basket of goodies from 17 of the Mitton Village businesses. Draw is Dec. 19th.

One of the causes of heel pain is Fat Pad Atrophy. It’s more common in the obese or elderly populations above 65 years of age and felt as a deep ache and tenderness at the centre of the heel bottom. Foot orthotics with good heel cups, cushion and arch support can help off-load the heel. Shock absorbing footwear also helps. I don't sell this brand of shoe.

Fallen Arches? As your feet age, connective tissues called ligaments can begin to stretch out, reducing the height of your arch (referred to as fallen arches) and leading to a condition known as flat feet (pes planus) which can cause loss of stability, and inner ankle, arch, hip, knee and low back pain. We can help with foot orthotics (over-the-counter or custom-made).

One leg shorter? We can do heel lifts on the bottom of the shoe or inside. Full sole elevations can be done when there is no room inside the shoe for it. Sometimes a lift can be part of your foot orthotic.

Shin Splints: Caused when: the anterior leg muscles are stressed by hard impacts like jumping, wearing shoes without enough shock absorption, muscle imbalance, poor running form or flat feet. This can cause the tendon to start tearing away from the shin bone. Some times it is a overstretching of the sheath around the muscle from too rapid of swelling/growth. Tip: Stretching & strengthening program, and orthotics to correct over-pronation. In more severe cases: ice massage, electrostimuli, heat treatments and ultra-sound.

Painful Corns, Callouses or Ulcers? All are typically caused from too much pressure or friction that can be relieved by a pedorthist, by orthotic and/or shoe excavations, along with finding a proper sock and shoe fit.
