Piece of advice for free agent players : 1) Please understand that there are over 1,800 free agents with organizational experience this offseason. 2) If someone... offers you a job (Atlantic League of Professional Baseball / Frontier League / American Association of Independent Professional Baseball) TAKE IT ***DONE LET YOUR AGENT TALK YOU OUT OF A JOB even many guys with MLB experience will lose out)*** 3) If you don’t have the experience / skill set to make a club in the above leagues mentioned & someone offers you a job in Empire Baseball League / Pacific Association of Professional Baseball / United Shore Professional Baseball League TAKE IT! They are just as legit as the Top 3 run by good people with the best of intentions for players. ***** Leads us to the next the point ***** With new pro leagues popping up everywhere we simply urge you all to DO YOUR HOMEWORK. ***** IF YOU HAVE TO PAY TO PLAY IT’S NOT PROFESSIONAL ***** 1) Find out what the players will be paid 2) Find out your living situation 3) Find out who the managers are 4) Find out who the investors are 5) Find out if there’s a website 6) Find out how the team will travel (charter bus or your own car/gas) 7) Find out where you will stay on the road (legit hotel or your car) There’s plenty more on the list, but start there. Be smart & ask questions!!

My stuff was very average so I had to find ways to make it play up. Over the years I learned little tricks to make that happen. This was one of them. Tempo became a weapon for me. It may not work for everyone but it really helped me. Give it a shot sometime. You never know.

So, there you are, doing everything expected as a student-athlete, physically and academically (notice I said "expected")." You're eating well, getting proper s...leep, working out and stretching every day. You put in the time, perfecting your craft. You're physically strong and incredibly lean. You "look" the part! And if you have all the tools, it's "possibly" good enough to get you into college somewhere. But you'll never discover your true potential if that's all you do. You're playing a game that is 90% mental (and trust me, I'm being very lenient with that number). The first thing we must learn as an athletes is, "It's not always the more talented one who wins. It's typically the one who is "hungrier." That very same fire and intensity with a, "no quit, refuse to lose attitude," is not something you can find in a weight room...or on a practice field...maybe not even in a church. Let me ask you this (and Ray Lewis put this perfectly). Have you ever wondered why the lion is the king of the jungle? They're not the biggest or the strongest. They're certainly not the smartest. And they're definitely NOT the fastest. So how is the lion such a feared beast? And how did he become, King of the Jungle? Very simple...... "HIS MENTALITY!" The lion need not convince us, nor himself that he is a beast. We know it.....and he certainly knows it. And there is "no" event on earth that could ever convince him otherwise. He is immortal, without any doubt or fear. Now I certainly understand that without the 5 essential physical attributes for sports (strength, agility, flexibility, endurance and speed), our bodies, simply couldn't compete. But the "true" strength of an elite athlete, lies within his mindset....his mentality. It's what separates him from the rest. And just like the lion, it too, cannot be altered. In baseball (and in life), you will always be up against others who are stronger, quicker, smarter and more talented than you. It's inevitable. Are you fully prepared and as mentally strong as you can be? It's imperative to not only believe, but to "KNOW" you're the best out there (and there "is" a difference). I can immediately spot an athlete with this mindset. Unfortunately players like this are few and far between. And until you rid your mind of all fear, doubt, anxiety and reluctance, you will never attain your full potential. It's that simple. A lamb would never dare, step foot into the arena to battle a lion. Even if it possessed equal size, strength and speed. His mind simply isn't built like that. A lambs mentality could never compete. He's a lamb, not a beast. So improve your mindset...... and understand the first rule of competition, moving forward.... "IN ORDER TO DEFEAT A BEAST, YOU MUST FIRST BECOME ONE!" Good luck!
