Every Child Matters Phyllis Webstad, who attended a residential school in British Columbia in the 1970's, started Orange Shirt Day in 2013. Phyllis was initially excited to go to school and went shopping with her granny to pick out a new outfit for school; she chose a shiny orange shirt. That shirt was taken away from her when she arrived at residential school and was never returned to her. On September 30th, Canadians wear an orange shirt to demonstrate the commitment to reconciliation and opening and continuing the dialogue about residential schooling.

Have you noticed not everything you've sent to school with your student has made it's way back home? Since the school is unable to have a lost and found at school, it is now super important to make sure all our stuff is labelled. Choose Mabel's Labels and 20% of your purchase goes back to our school!... #supportourschool #labeleverythinginthebackpack #reducelostitems #maybethrowafacemaskinyourcart

Do you have a school library book hiding in your home book collection? The school library is missing over 100 books that have not been returned from last year. If you find a school library book in your collection, please drop it off at the school in the grey bin located outside (during school hours). #savethemissingbooks #completethecollection #bekindpleasereturn

The Terry Fox Virtual Run. One Day. Your Way. The students have been learning about Terry Fox this week. Each class has come up with their own challenge to honor Terry’s spirit of perseverance, kindness, and hope. - Our Grade 5 and 6 students have been tracking long distance running. Each cohort is adding up the number of kilometers they run each day. The goal is to better their goal.... - The grade 4 students in Mrs. Ibbotson’s class have a fitness challenge including wicked sets of pushups. See the outtakes in the video to see Mrs. Ibbotson and Ms. Gillott in action! - Our grade 2/3 students will be designing a challenge to connect the theme of perseverance to Inuit games! - The grade 1 students in Mrs. Ballinger’s class are still working out their challenge! Stay tuned for more. - Kindergarten students will be doing a fitness challenge! - Our staff challenge is to walk 10K in the next 10 days! Please feel free to join in any of the challenges and send in a note or picture about your accomplishments to [email protected]! As we are unable to collect Toonies for Terry this year, please feel free to make your donations on The Terry Fox Foundation Website.
