Dr. Ovo at Snowy Owl Medical Clinic is accepting new patients and walk-ins. We continue to have strict measures in place to minimize risk of contracting COVID-19. Telephone appointments are encouraged for appropriate situations. However, our clinic remains open and we encourage people not to delay treatment of chronic medical conditions. Please call 403-807-8864 for an appointment.

***UPDATE Friday April 24 @ 2:00pm*** Health Minister Shandro has announced that rural physicans ("rural" decided by them and does not include Carstairs or Olds but includes Didsbury) and family physicians will go back to the previous medical liability insurance policy. Although this is great news, there are still plenty of changes that still have significant consequences. The Alberta government has gone ahead with many health policies during 2020, despite the Covid-19 pandem...ic. Almost every doctor in Alberta has major concerns that these changes will result in rural hospitals closing, diminished services available, and doctors leaving the province. These policies have already directly affected the Sundre, Pincher Creek, Rocky Mountain House, and Lac La Biche hospitals, with many other doctors across the province ready to join them. This video explores just one of these poorly thought out policies.

The Canadian Paediatric Society has written a good article on supporting children with anxiety disorders during the pandemic. https://www.cps.ca//supporting-youth-with-anxiety-disorder

Asthma has not appeared to be a risk factor for worsened Covid-19. However, anyone with asthma should continue to take all their prescribed regular medications. https://www.nytimes.com//heal/coronavirus-asthma-risk.html

There have been correlations between slowing infection rates and countries that consistently recommend masks in public. Dr. Tam, Canada's chief public health officer, is now saying that wearing non-medical masks (leave N95 masks for your healthcare workers) may help limit the spread of COVID-19. https://www.cbc.ca//non-medical-masks-covid-19-spread-1.55

Snowy Owl Medical Clinic in Carstairs is still open and operating! However, COVID-19 is VERY SERIOUS and we have changed how we are operating. 1. Please do NOT come to the clinic if you have COVID-19 symptoms (cough, fever), have been exposed to someone with COVID-19, or have traveled outside of the country in the last 14 days. 2. Please hold off on any non-urgent medical matters (annual physicals, blood work, etc.). 3. We are doing phone calls! If you have a concern that may... be addressed over the phone, please make an appointment. Prescription refills can also be done over the phone. 4. Dr. Ovo has some limited walk-in clinic availability. We want patients staying out of the ER so please give us a call at 403-807-8864 if you need to see a doctor (no COVID symptoms/exposure). 5. Dr. From (pediatrics) and Dr. Wang (skin expert) continue to accept referrals from other doctors. Lastly, please continue to social distance and stay safe. Let's do our part!

Our pediatrician, Dr. From, will not be in clinic for the next 2 weeks due to self-isolation protocols. Patients with previously scheduled appointments will be notified. We apologize for this inconvenience.

A few clinic updates in light of Coronavirus COVID-19: - We continue to be open for business. - Self-isolation for our doctors or staff may disrupt your appointment. We will call you if this happens and work to accommodate you until you can be seen.... - All non-essential appointments (eg. healthy physicals, well baby checks) should be postponed. If you have an upcoming appointment that can wait, please call and reschedule. - We are implementing increased cleaning procedures. Do not be offended if we request you to wait in your vehicle until we can take you directly to a room. Thank you!

Upcoming changes from Alberta Health will result in less time spent with your doctor. This video explores why that will happen.
