Tomorrow we have our last #SayHerName walk in Cole Harbour at 6pm, meeting in the upper parking lot of Cole Harbour Place to walk approximately 4K. September has been about saying her name within the larger Black Lives Matter movement. We will be walking along Forrest Hills Parkway to the RCMP station and returning the way we came. I'll be in the super cute purple shirt like the one Kisa Johnston has on here if you get there and have any questions. All are invited, the pace is whatever you want but the walk is important to keep movement going and to raise awareness. And note the regular Black Lives Matter walks are ongoing on Sundays through BLM In this TOGETHER and there is one at 10:30am this Sunday at Graham's Grove.

I just read this article that said this about Hot Flashes: "Hot flashes often increase before menopause, peak 2-3 years after onset, and then taper off. Triggers include stress, coffee, spicy foods, alcohol, sugar, citrus fruits, high BMI, smoking, SSRIs, large meals, and intense exercise." Since it seems they are mostly describing me (I don't smoke!) I sure hope they are wrong. And think I'll just have to accept them as there are too many of my favorites included in that lis...t. https://www.precisionnutrition.com/all-about-menopause

Looking for something to do this morning, here ya go!

Sole Sisters Womens Race 13.05.2020

Two women are on my mind this morning: Breonna Taylor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. I hope to see many for our the #SayHerName walk at 10:30 in Cole Harbour. "Women belong in all places where decisions are being made. It shouldn't be that women are the exception." - Ruth Bader Gingsburg Rest in peace, Ruth Bader Ginsburg. A warrior, a feminist icon and a hero to so many. Her unwavering commitment to equality changed the world for the better. She will be celebrated far and wide. So today, lets make sure to celebrate Breonna Taylor because RBG would want us to!

**I just bought my own box and wanted to make sure Sole Sisters knew about this amazing fundraiser that supports healthy eating programs in schools. THIS is exactly the sort of thing I want to spread the word about as it helps so many in the community!** The funds raised through Nourish Your Roots help schools to sustain their food programs like breakfast, cooking in the classroom and school food gardens. Now more than ever families are relying on school food programs.... Nourish Your Roots looks different this year because of COVID 19. Students sold boxes Pre-COVID and they were delivered into schools. Due to COVID-19, students are not be able to participate in the program. Instead of doing away with NYR, Nourish pivoted to develop a community Its easier than ever for anyone to buy a box via the secure online store. Nourish has arranged zero contact pick up at community hub sites across NS. Nourish Your Roots uses local produce from farmers across NS. NYR boxes are filled with 8-10 farm fresh vegetables (sometimes fruit and/or herbs too!), with a focus on root vegetables. The boxes weigh 20-25lbs each. NYR boxes vary from farm to farm based on the harvest and weather conditions. Nourish Your Roots Community - thank you for doing this!

What a busy weekend of so many VIRTUAL RACES! Congratulations to all of you! Are you already thinking, what next? I would like to invited you to walk (or run) 5K this Saturday (September 19) in Dartmouth to SAY HER NAME. And if that doesn't work, check out BLM In this TOGETHER because even if this doesn't work for you then please join them for their other walks! For months many have said Say their name," for the countless Black men unjustifiably killed. However, each S...aturday of September we ask you all to draw your attention to Say HER name," for Breonna Taylor as well. Breonna Taylor was an inspiring nurse, who peacefully was sleeping at home when she was killed by what her boyfriend thought was intruders. We later learned the intruders were plain clothed police officers. Due to Breonna working in health field, and also a dream of furthering her education to become a nurse; we will focus on moving in support of her through improving ones health through walking and/or running! BLMIn this TOGETHER and SOLE SISTERS have partnered to move within this movement! For us, running/fitness has been a haven and a gift that has aided our physical, mental and emotional health. Join us as we walk or run for BREONNA TAYLOR. Thats right, Say HER name. #SAYHERNAME #BLM *******Meet at the top parking lot behind Cole Harbour Place at 10:15am on Saturday, September 19, 2020 ********

Did my @capebretonfiddlersmarathon VIRTUAL MARATHON this morning and feeling very proud of it. I'm toasting my marathon with @lakecitycider District PRIDE Rose instead of a Cape Breton brew (so many great choices up there, sorry I just can't say down there, so y'all know I'm an import). I know others have raced and many will wait until this weekend to do their virtual races. Good luck to everyone. I've always loved this event and was thrilled to join in this year virtually. And when we can race again. I'll be back to Sydney!!! #fiddlersmarathon #virtualmarathon #lovethisevent #goodluck

Hey Sole Sisters! Remember when I posted about Kyla Gillis wining the Race Across Nova Scotia? Well here is another article about her achievement and I wanted to post a bit about something she believes in. Kyla said: "2020 has been a different year. Without road racing I turned to two new events which both challenged me in different ways. Im excited to get back to road racing. Did you know the president of Run NS is female? And one of the kindest and most supportive individu...als I know. The rotating executive of Run NS means theres always new ideas, new representation, and great events for the season. I love road running in NS! Ive heard the need for positive change and think Run Trail NS needs to be formed. Similar platform as Run NS, a nonprofit organization, with a rotating executive of people representing many different runner abilities. A group of people who plan inclusive events and help grow the sport here in NS. As someone who doesnt even own trail running sneakers, Im ready to make my debut at some trail run clubs and make this happen. Lets grow this sport and produce the next NS born Gary Robbins!" So if anyone is interested in helping her form this group then I can get you in touch!

More race news. I think we already knew this was coming and if you didn't let me assure you the big races around the world won't likely be back until 2022. But I think if we go much smaller with many changes the smaller ones can continue here in Canada. Regardless y'all we gotta keep moving our bodies and train for health if not races! https://www.runnersworld.com//boston-marathon-2021-regis/

Thank you to our Sole Sister Rachel Sumner who shared this video yesterday. I wanted to watch it myself before I recommended it here. And now that I have, I like that it touches on so much and there is one whole topic (nurturing) that I hadn't heard at all. So ladies, if you are in your late 30s and beyond... you should listen. I waited until I had symptoms this year to begin my research and what I've learned is that you will have peri-menopausal symptoms for many years and never realize. Here is the thing, knowledge is power. I don't have any answers for you. But, I am digging in and trying to learn. If anyone wants to add more great information please post it here. https://www.youtube.com/watch

How many other @solesistersrace gals have trouble sleeping? I used to sleep so soundly before the Pandemic and before my PeriMenopausal symptoms started. It is a #KillerCombo let me tell you to hit at one time! And the last month has been really hard waking repeatedly. I'd call it stress but I've gotten a couple light heat/hot flashes recently. Since research indicates hot flashes can be triggered by heat (hot drink, hot shower/bath, hot room etc) and by caffeine AND since I ...started sweating drinking my 2nd on Tuesday. I'm trying this new thing, #IcedCoffee and with the almond milk and touch of protein powder I'm hoping it gives me some pre-work out calories that I need. Since I made this last night and had it waiting in the refer it was quicker than normal coffee. My sleep was TERRIBLE last night so I need the caffeine boost and hope this is a good work-around. Y'all got any tips that work for you? This is not my idea, I read about it so wanted to share. I will let you know how it works but for sure no heat flash this morning but I'm a little chilled due to fall and my iced coffee, ha ha! #solesisters #pandemic #perimenopause #menopause #forgottenathlete #runHER #walkHER #coffee #hotflash #whatdotoudo See more

This article really makes me think. Firstly riding a bike and fast at 80 is a really empowering thing and so impressive. I don't quite follow which banned substance she had legitimately been prescribed but continued to take after it was banned. However, as I research some of the medicines and adaptgens that are recommended for perimenopausal and menopausal women I wonder if the tests that are designed mostly for younger athletes to keep them from cheating need to be updated for senior athletes that are taking for health reasons. I don't know, but it has me thinking. What do you think?

Instead of our usual #MedalMonday I wanted to add a #MeaningfulMonday post. I bought this shirt from the @wnba this morning and 100% of proceeds are going to the #BreonnaTaylorFoundation. Breonna Taylor (age 26 years young) was killed almost 6 months ago and the WNBA has dedicated their 2020 season to honor her and seek justice in her memory. We can't say her name enough. ... Ever notice how few stories their are about black female victims? #SayHerName is a social movement that seeks to raise awareness for Black female victims of police brutality and anti-Black violence. #SayHerName aims to change public perception that victims of police brutality and anti-Black violence are predominantly male by highlighting the gender-specific ways in which Black women are disproportionately affected by fatal acts of racial injustice. #SayHerName #BlackLivesMatter #WeAreBreonnaTaylor #MeaningfulMonday

Much of U.S. sports came to a halt on Wednesday night, with walkouts spread across teams from leagues including the National Basketball Association and Major League Baseball, marking a historic day in professional athletics. But for W.N.B.A. players, the move was just another step in a years-long stand against racial injustice. As far back as 2016, players and teams wore shirts supporting Black lives and protesting gun violence, organized media blackouts and kneeled during th...e national anthem, often drawing the ire of league officials and a public that has told them to stick to sports. This year, amid social unrest and a pandemic that forced them to conduct their season inside a bubble in Bradenton, Fla., the entire W.N.B.A. is honoring Black women and girls by dedicating its season to Breonna Taylor and the #SayHerName campaign. Created in 2014, the #SayHerName campaign aims to broaden the national conversation about anti-Black police violence to include the names of Black women and girls whose stories tend to be overlooked. This is the link to some of the merchandise because well, I want some and thought you might too. https://breakingt.com/products/we-are-breonna-taylor

Sole Sisters Women's Race went virtual in 2020 and we adore seeing the smiles on all these faces. These women and girls didn't let Covid19 cancel their fitness and their fun, they simply adjusted and found a way to participate safely. We simply can't wait to be back to group gatherings but for now, this video gives us so much joy. Thank you to everyone that participated. And the biggest thanks goes to our incredible 2020 sponsors: The Nova Scotia College of Chiropractors, Walsh Performance, Halifax Regional Municipality, Plus Fitness with Tara and Kaitlyn Beaver (Nutrition, Fitness, Reiki).

Sole Sisters Womens Race - we were going to wait to unveil our 2021 design until well 2021. But, we decided we couldn't wait and besides the theme of HERo fit to well with wearing a face mask. So, if you are looking to add to your collection of face masks then know you can buy one or a three pack. These are in stock now so we can mail as soon as you order. And maybe we won't need these in 2021 (we can hope eh?). We have two more items that are in stock but they are more fall oriented so we may wait for September to post about them.
