AH, My first time at Spotlight New Years + Last Performance before COVID hit. There is something so intense but incredibly rewarding about melting two partners brains together to create a routine in 2 days. This performance was so worth it! Who else has hustled to put together a performance? And how did it turn out?

The first time I got to dance west coast swing was funny because, as a Zumba Instructor, I knew to copy whatever movements everyone else was doing. So, the first time I did West Coast Swing, I just copied my partner and ended up having an amazing night of dancing! Then one day a dancer said to me: "You're going to Grand Nationals" I was like, I can't afford it, but he said "you're going" So I saved up a crap ton of money After that, I couldn't stay away from west coast swing! Even though I was coerced into competing through peer pressure, I am so grateful for that extra push that has transformed into lifelong passion!

Day 21... Ninja Kick Diamond . Yihaaa!!! This feels good... but I need more sleep. Seriously underestimated the adjustments I need to make in my lifestyle with upping training that much!

Question: When have you felt the most alive on the dance floor? For me, the most invigorated I've felt dancing wasn't when I won a competition, or even when I feel I danced with great technique. It's the dances where I felt something light my soul up. It's the dances that make me crack up laughing.... It's the dances where gratitude free flows through me. (English, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, German) . -Constantly forgetting words in the language you are currently speaking and having people ask you to tell them in the other language only to find out you forgot it in every languages. I was at a Salsa event when I saw a video of Jordan Frisbee and Tatiana Mollmann and I said: That's what I'm going to do. Fast forward to my first west coast swing class and I decided I would be a champion. LOL! When I said that to myself years ago, I know it wasn't coming from a place of confidence, but pure will! No doubt, I'm going to work my ass off and I will be a champion. Now my salsa friends agree, west coast swing is my dance! Lol!... Going into this Strictly at Montreal Westie Fest, I had been dancing significantly less than ever before on the circuit. School was consuming my life and I didn't have the time to train like I used to. And despite all of that... As soon as Nelson took me into his arms, I stopped thinking about how little I had trained and let the dance take over. During these crazy times, you might feel like your dancing hasn't been put to use like it once was. ... I promise, when you get on the dance floor again, your soul will dance with you again. So, give yourself some grace!

Growing up, I was a bookworm who thought school was "too easy" and by the time I got to college, I knew I needed a challenge. That's when I ended up finding the only dance program that would accept students without an audition But I had to work so hard to keep up. I would dance during my lunch time, after school and rent out studio space to practice. While the rest of my classmates were getting great grades , I was lucky to earn an 80%.... But overcoming a challenge so foreign to me was very rewarding. I proved to myself that I have the ability to work hard because dance taught me what hard work actually is. So, to all of the dancers that have to work extra hours on your technique. I see you. I know what it's like to work hard for your passion. Who else can relate?
