You haven’t heard from us in awhile. We have two wonderful updates!
This may be of interest to you.
How very interesting. What do you think?
What family story are you most thankful for? Happy Thanksgiving from all the folks of SSGS?
Some family history isn't pretty, but we still learn from it.
This is so interesting. Does your family have a connection to this story?
From above our heads to storage before it moves to the park outside. Are you a Lunenburg Academy alumni?
This could be very helpful.
We genealogists spend a lot of time in cemeteries... but we sometimes struggle with spelling "cemetery." Here's how to remember.
May 8th this year marks the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War and the Liberation of Norway. Today we honour and remember all those who fought ...bravely and tirelessly for our freedom and express our gratitude to Canada for their contribution. The strong ties forged then continue to grow. The Annual General Meeting of The South Shore Genealogical Society, scheduled for tomorrow, Monday March 16th at 7 pm, has been postponed in order to help reduce the risk of contacting COVID-19. We will let you know when it will be rescheduled, hopefully in a month. Take care all!
Happy Robbie Burns Day. Do you have some Scots in your heritage? What are the names and from where in Scotland did they come?
Something old, something new and a little humour for your holiday season. Its such a family time of year....and what activity is more family oriented than genealogy? We wish you all the best of the season and hope you are enjoying time with current family and friends, as well as doing some research on older versions of your family. Keep telling the family stories.
This may be one very lovely way to be in touch with your German heritage.
Here is where cooking and genealogy coincide. Old family stories include the recipes passed down through the generations.
In celebration of the fortieth anniversary of the South Shore Genealogical Society, we held a raffle for an antique Johhny Young rocking chair. The Young family were Foreign Protestants who turned to furniture making after immigrating to Lunenburg. This lovely piece of their family history was donated to us by Mrs Chris Young in memory of her husband, Dr. Chris Young. We've been selling tickets since May. There were only 266 tickets in recognition of the years since Lunenburg was founded. We finally had the draw earlier this week. We're delighted to show you the lucky winner, and her new chair, Faune Creaser of Lunenburg.
Looking forward to this book launch on Sept. 18, 7 pm at the Lunenburg Legion.
