SFA Pre-Service Fire Students, Ontario has declared a state of emergency in the Province, that in addition to the measures already taken by Southwest Fire Academy has allowed us to get temporary approval for you to complete all of the IFSTA tests in Resource One at home. This will eliminate the need for you to attend the campus to complete these tests. You will each be credited 46.5 hours towards your required 115 on campus hours. This is a short term exemption from the nor...mal program delivery and when the COVID-19 protective measures are eliminated, the ability to test at home will also stop. As far as practical days, currently they are cancelled. Once we can re-open the campus, several additional dates will be announced in an effort to help everyone meet their bootcamp goals. Currently the OFMEM has cancelled all certification testing on Ontario. This will be re-evaluated April 6, 2020. As soon as we have information about new testing dates we will advise everyone that has been affected. The OFMEM has assured us they will work with us to provide all of the testing that has been postponed as soon as the moratorium is lifted. Students took part in NFPA 1072 HAZMAT Technician training this week at the SFA campus. This 80 hour blended program provides the flexibility to work on theory from home and the ability to practice skills with our experienced instructors at the Campus. The OFMEM has cancelled all certification testing until April 6, 2020 due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Due to the current global situation and following the recommendations from the public health unit, SFA is making some changes to help protect our students and staff. Effective immediately, only students attending SFA Bootcamp 22 currently will be allowed at the Campus. This practice will remain in effect until at least Friday March 20. We will provide an update on the middl...e of next week regarding upcoming courses. Please stay safe and check back often for more information.

Just a few more pictures of our ice rescue training at Lake Lisgar in Tillsonburg. It was a beautiful day out on the ice and a great day for our students. SFA Pre-Service students had the opportunity to train with firefighters from Tillsonburg, Bayham and Kingsville. We also want to thank the Tillsonburg Fire Department for hosting the course at their station, great partnerships at work! Finally, I'd like to recognize our Instructors, Barry Lasook, Ted Sanders, Jeff Dean, Gord Roesch and Dennis Vandevyvere. Combined they have over 80 years of experience in the fire and rescue service! Today is the 10th anniversary of the incident in Point Edward that ultimately took the life of Gary Kendall during training. The training incident that killed Gary was a transformational moment, and I can honestly say it is one of the reasons that SFA exists today. Our thoughts are with the Kendall family this weekend. Gary Kendall will continue to help shape the future of the Fire Service as we remember him every year.
