The Fort McMurray Schools Athletic Association held its first all-schools awards night in many years Monday evening at the Keyano Theatre. Highlights included t...he naming of Ben Simmons of Father Mercredi and Mackenzie Bruce of Westwood as the male and female athletes of the year. Long-time organizer and referee Kim Boehme was named Ambassador of the Year, recognizing his support of athletics in Fort McMurray. The FMSAA also announced that the ambassador award will be named the Kim Boehme Award for future presentations. Here’s a photo gallery of all the award-winners announced Monday.

The Frontenac Falcons, who led by just two points at the half and were only seven points up with 4:43 left to play in the fourth quarter, went on a 14-point run... over three minutes to run away with the Kingston Area Secondary Schools Athletic Association senior boys basketball crown, 56-37, over the Sydenham Golden Eagles on Monday, Feb. 20. Playing at the Queen's Athletics and Recreation Centre, Frontenac entered the second half with only a 23-21 lead. They extended the margin 35-27 after three quarters, but Sydenham came back to make it 40-33 with 4:43 left on the clock. By the time the clock read 1:43, the Falcons had pulled into a 54-33 lead and clinched their second consecutive title. Connor Vreeken paced the Falcons with 24 points, with Kevin Toussiant adding 10 and Brendan Steele chipping in with eight. For the Golden Eagles, Isaac Sanderson netted 16 points. No. 1 Frontenac finished KASSAA play with a 12-0 record, while the No. 2 Golden Eagles wound up 10-2.
