THE BUCKET LIST (Morgan Freeman/Jack Nicholson) Watching this movie has so much more meaning to me now than it did ages ago when it first came out... It has become a tradition of mine!... This tree knows is not letting anything stop it! Yes, this picture is VERY cool! I did a double-take when I saw it and I thought it was remarkable how the tree found a way to survive. Then it went deeper than that!... Get out of your own way! This tree knows no limits. We often sabotage ourselves in someway not letting go of what is stopping us. As an Athletic Therapist, I see this all the time! Movements of joints won't get better unless you take the brakes (a.k.a limits) off the muscles that are inhibiting that movement! ...and for those who were asking what it was like on the way down from Kilimanjaro? Sliding down on your butt like a little kid on shale softer than sand! A beautiful serenade from the amazing team that never gave up on us! ... A hike through a 45 minute (!) downpour in the rainforests A sense of accomplishment that surges through you like a warm current!! Amazing hugs at the bottom of the camp where it all started! ...and a 2 hour bus ride that I keep staring out the window onto the Tanazanian landscape and being in awe of such a beautiful country with so many beautiful people!

"Why now?" That is a question that we always ask ourselves as therapists and strength coaches when someone comes in with a chronic pain or injury. When someone reaches down to pick up a shoe, and they pull their back out. .... Someone training their shoulders at the gym and they "pull" a muscle . They are jogging and all of a sudden, they feel a sharp jab in their knee. Rest assured it is not the shoe's fault. Nor is it the bag's fault nor the pavement's fault. These movements are something that we do a million times yet why, all of a sudden does the back, shoulder or knee just give way? It's basically some type of brain fart that occurs and the timing was just not right. However, more often than you might think, these situations happen for a reason and that your body is trying to tell you that it is upset about something! Remember that nothing happens "all of a sudden" the same way you do not JUST get a cavity! Pain is a SYMPTOM of something else going on. Taking medication or applying the creams are just going to get rid of the pain but NOT the REASON why you go pain in the first place! If these movements are so commonplace, then "why now?" Identifying WHY something you have a chronic injury and what to do about it is what we do best! Trust in what you believe is right for YOU right NOW! Do not let others convince you otherwise from your objectives and intentions! It has happened to me quite a bit in the past but you learn from past experiences. Have you ever seen what happens to a bucket full of crabs? If one tries to escape, there is always another one trying to pull it back down. Do away with the crabs who will pull you down and skew your ideas and ideals. This is especially true when it comes to your health and fitness. People will always try and dissuade you from your fitness goals. Say NO! Life is tough to balance at times, huh? Delicate at times. Waking up with an alarm (sometimes snoozed a couple of times). Getting dressed and eating the same breakfast. Driving to drop off the kids and go to work using the same routes day in day out. Hearing the same banter at work. Driving the kids to activities.... Come home and repeat like it is Groundhog's Day. But you know what? That means your life is quite FULL! Imagine if you didn't have that much to do? If you still feel overwhelmed, do everything we just discussed and make small adjustments. EXAMPLES: ===> Go to bed 30 min earlier so you don't need the snooze. ===> Put on something more snazzy. ===> Make some good old fashioned bacon and eggs. ===> Take a different route to school and to work. ===> Crack a couple of jokes at work to lighten the mood and create a different atmosphere. ===> Enjoy a glass of wine and a bath.
