Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) most commonly occurs from repetitive wrist bending movements together with bending of the fingers in the hand. CTS begins as a gradual tingling/ numbness sensation into the thumb, index and middle finger of the hand that gets worse with gripping of things like the car steering wheel or phone. These symptoms tend to be worse at night and in the early morning. In more chronic cases, there will be weakness into the hand as well as sensations of burn...ing pain. Physiotherapy can help through education on how to modify certain activities, wrist manual therapy, nerve glide exercises, and use of certain hand splints. If you are having any of these symptoms, it's best to see your Physiotherapist early before the symptoms progress. #SpringPhysio #physiotherapy #torontophysiotherapy #physicaltherapy #physiotips #education #toronto #physio #torontophysio #torontohealth #health #exercise #physiocanhelp #wristpain #carpaltunnel #repetitivework #sharethelove

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. In Canada, breast cancer accounted for 25% of all new cancer diagnoses in women in 2019 according to the Canadian Cancer Society. The great news is that since 1986 survival rates have been increasing due to early detection, new treatment options, and changes in the use of certain hormonal medications in postmenopausal women. Improved survival, however, means that there are many women that now require rehabilitation post breast cance...r treatment. Common conditions that result from treatment include: - Scar adherence post surgery - Frozen shoulder - Rotator cuff injury/ shoulder pain - Lymhedema - Cord/webbing syndrome - Postural dysfunction - Fatigue - Cardio toxicity Physiotherapy can help improve all of these conditions! If you personally are experiencing these conditions or know someone who is who can benefit from physiotherapy care, please spread the word and repost! #SpringPhysio #torontophysio #torontophysiotherapy #torontohealth #toronto #torontowellness #physiotips #physio #physiotherapy #physicaltherapy #physiocanhelp #breastcancerawareness #breastcancer #breastcancerawarenessmonth #cancerfree #cancersucks #cancerfatigue #cancerpain #cancerawareness #cancersurvivors #cancertreatment #cancersurvivors #cancercare #sharethelove

Muscle strain injuries are the most common injury in sports, with an incidence of 10-55%. A muscle strain can have various degrees of severity. With a mild strain, the muscle will be tender and painful, no bruising is typically seen, and early resolution is expected. ... A moderate strain involves a partial tear of the muscle, it involves significant early functional loss, pain and bruising. A severe strain is a complete tear of the muscle which may require surgery to fix. There will be significant bruising, swelling, pain, and loss of function. If you suspect you have sustained a muscle strain while playing sports or when lifting in the gym, physiotherapy can help! Controlled mobility and stress are needed post injury to allow for scar formation, muscle healing, and return to pre-injury strength. #SpringPhysio #torontophysio #Toronto #physiotherapy #physicaltherapy #physio #torontophysiotherapy #sharethelove #weightlifting #weighttraining #weighttrain #muscleandfitness #muscle #injury #injuryrecovery #injuryrehab #sportsinjuryrehab #muscleinjury #sportsinjury #sports #sport

When comparing trunk muscle activation between sitting in an ergonomic chair vs. a Swiss ball, most studies show no difference. In a few research studies it has also been shown that the Swiss ball increases low back discomfort and fatigue. Take away: if you have to sit at work, stick with the ergonomic chair. ... Ideally you would want to take breaks from sitting every 30 minutes by changing positions from sitting to standing, as prolonged sitting has its' own negative health effects. #SpringPhysio #torontophysio #torontohealth #torontolife #toronto #northyork #physiotips #torontophysiotherapy #wellness #officelife #ergonomic #posture #posturecorrection #sittingpretty #sitting #backpain #lowerbackpain #prevention #education #officework #swissball #ergonomicchair #sittostand #sharethelove
