One of the City of St. Albert's first public art installations, My glad feet shod with a glittering steel, I was the god of the winged heel (1994 ) was created by Wanda Cracknell, Joanna Drummond, Lill Eitzen, Franziska Jacobsen, Alice Colett-Switzer and Phil Switzer, all members of the St. Albert Potters Guild who drew inspiration from the sports that would take place in an arena. Originally installed at the Campbell Place Arena and later reinstalled at Servus Credit Union P...lace in September of 2008. The three-dimensional ceramic mural depicting skating and hockey, and the objects that are associated with the two activities is striking in its detail and arrangement and a wonderful representation of the community and brings an unexpected delight when navigating the hallways of Servus Credit Union Place. Someone has taken it upon themselves to spread a little holiday cheer in a very unique way. These sculpted creatures have been popping up around the Woodlands area and we cannot help but smile when we spot one. Thank you mystery snow sculptor for making our day (actually our whole week).

Today's Public Art spotlight lands on Our Nature, Our Place by Verne Busby & Bella Totino-Busby. The mosaic consists of three panels and weighs approximately 2,000 pounds and is composed of approximately 49,000 brilliantly coloured 3/4 inch vitreous glass tiles. Inspired by the Sturgeon River and Big Lake area. The artwork is saturated by striking colours and incorporates abstracted silhouettes of the local flora and fauna. ... If you are in the area feel free to get a closer look at these stunning pieces located at Beaudry Place (50 Bellerose Drive). You will be in awe of their beauty.

Today's public Art spotlight lands on Respite by Shawn Cunningham (Front Step Forge). This gazebo is light and airy, and decorated with wrought iron vines and leaves and surrounded by roses in the summer months. Located in the heart of the Celebration Garden along the Sturgeon River, Respite is a landmark and a gathering space for groups and ceremonies. Enjoy these images that show the piece as it stands now and a few behind the scenes images from when the piece was installed nearly 20 years ago.
