St. Anthony's School 27.01.2021

UPDATE 6:05 am February 08, 2021 All of our schools are open, but extremely cold temperatures and severe wind chills will dictate that bus routes will not run... today in Strathmore, Drumheller, Brooks and Oyen. In all of our other communities, we expect buses to run, but we anticipate that extreme temperatures conditions might cause some to run late. Please do not leave children unattended at bus stops, and please ensure that they are dressed appropriately for the conditions. Please read below for transportation updates specific to your community. Even where we initially determine that rural buses can travel, individual bus drivers have the authority to cancel routes if they determine that local conditions may be unsafe. In the case that a route is cancelled, Southland Transportation will contact families. In-town stops will not be accommodated either today if the route is cancelled. CTR will continue to monitor the road conditions throughout the day. Visit www.redeemer.ab.ca for up-to-date bus route information. Students and staff driving to school should use extra caution and plan for additional travel time. Brooks Schools are open. Buses will not run rural or in-town routes, as it has been deemed too cold for students to wait at bus stops, particularly if the bus was to run late. Grades 1 to 3 spread some Christmas spirit! Our students in grades 1 to 3 went to visit continuing care and the residents were so appreciative. They have been unable to have any external groups (school groups, entertainment, etc) come into the health care facility to interact with their long term care residents since the pandemic started in March. This has been very difficult for their residents. The grades mentioned above came and did outdoor parades around the facility o...n 3 separate occasions in December to spread Christmas cheer and good wishes to our residents. Kim Larsen, the Recreation Therapist, wanted us to know the positive impact this had on our residents and the great job these teachers and kids did. "I feel it was very meaningful on both sides of the window and showed our residents that they do matter and that people really care. Christmas is not all about presents but about ensuring that everyone feels the magic of the Christmas spirit. I wanted to thank you and your school for ensuring that the magic of the season is present and for spreading it to those who need it most." See more

Let us pray: O God, Great Spirit and Faithful Creator, with humility we your children acknowledge the relationship of all living things. For this we thank you, ...we praise you and we worship you. We call on you, Great Mystery, the Word made Flesh our teacher, prophet and brother - to open our hearts to all our brothers and sisters, and with them to grow in the wisdom, honesty, courage and respectfulness shown in The Sacred Teachings. Give us the honesty to recognize that the Earth provides us with life sustaining breath, nourishment and healing, and give us the strength to proclaim by our words and actions that the Earth is a blessing for all peoples. May we avoid the sins of exploitive personal power and profit. May we seek the righteous way of love, service, and healing in all things. Father, as we walk our journey on this Earth, may your life-giving Spirit protect and guide us with your Wisdom so that we might live in right relationship and harmony with all humanity. May we pass on to future generations this Earth and all your gifts as you have provided them to us. +Amen

On September 30 we encouraged all our students to wear orange for Orange Shirt Day. This is a day when we honour the Indigenous children who were sent away to residential schools in Canada and learn more about the history of those schools. We saw a sea of orange at our school in support of creating awareness for the healing that needs to take place and to show that "every child matters?

This year was the 40th Anniversary of Terry’s Marathon of Hope. We are so proud of our students and staff who decided to keep Terry's dream alive and fundraised a total of $6440 for cancer research. We had a special guest, a 92-year old cancer survivor speak with the students about her fight against incurable cancer. Our grade 11 and 12 students had a fundraising challenge from two of their teachers. The student rose to this challenge and now they get to determine what colour to dye their teachers' hair. All the students received an icecream treat compliments of the Christianson. We are blessed to be part of such an amazing school community.

Every Child Matters. Orange Shirt Day will be on Wednesday, Sept. 30. Phyllis Webstad was given a new orange shirt by her grandmother for her first day of schoo...l at St. Joseph's Mission residential school in British Columbia. When Phyllis got to school, they took away her clothes, including her new shirt. It was never returned. We wear orange shirts on this day to acknowledge and reconcile the past hurts our indigenous peoples have faced. #orangeshirtday https://www.orangeshirtday.org/ See more

Tomorrow we embark on the start of the school year! To all CTR parents - we thank you for putting your faith in us to do our very best to keep your children s...afe. We will learn as we go. There will be bumps in the road and it may be imperfect at first, but we will adapt and adjust. We’ve got this! To all CTR students - we simply cannot wait to see your beautiful faces - mask and all! We have missed having you in our classrooms and hallways and even though things will look a bit different, we are committed to learning, growing and coming together in faith and love in the year ahead. To our communities - thank you for your support, patience and guidance as we navigated uncharted waters. Together, we will learn and adapt to our new environment. Together, we will protect ourselves and each other. Together, we will forge ahead in kindness, compassion and love. Together, we are better! To all the students, teachers and staff out there, we pray you get some rest tonight. As you rise tomorrow, we hope that you will pause to pray with us as we embark on a new school year. Congratulations to Weston Snider. Weston has received numerous awards and recognition for his short film entitled "Dichrome". As of now, Weston has won best international film at the Central Film Festival, 3rd Place in the best international film as a part of the Fresh International Film Festival, a special mention award at the New York World Film Festival, and film of the year at the Stardance Youth Film Festival. The short film, "Dichrome," directed by Weston Snider from St. Anthony's School was selected to be a part of our High School Film Competition!
