Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any e...xcellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Keep on doing the things that you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you. ~Philippians 4:8-9 See more

From Sarah: As we enter a time of harvest and thanksgiving, we will keep following the themes of the Season of Creation to look at hymns that deal with creation, nature, harvest, and our roles in the natural world. After all, we live in a world of creation and we can’t just limit ourselves to one short season to explore it! Our hymn for this week is Wind Upon the Waters (CP 408) by Marty Haugen. This beautiful hymn combines the images of creation with a call to action on ...our part, and images of re-awakening within our souls that may be dry and withered due to lack of hope, love or social engagement. Each verse follows the pattern of having the first half be a description of God and God’s hand in creation, while the second half is a description of our reaction to God being a way for us to be fully alive and working in our world. First half images include wind as the breath of God upon the early waters of the world (see Genesis 1); water and rain as gifts and the source of life; earth, rocks and plant life that spring up from barren ground as a result of love; light that not only ends physical darkness but emotional darkness and hatred as well; and finally humanity. Second half descriptions of ways we can interact with the spirit and creation and how God’s love can renew the feeling of creation and rebirth within our souls include the wind breathing life into our souls; rain showering the dry earth of [our souls]; love growing in the garden in [our souls]; the sun blazingjustice in our lives; and the Spirit [renewing] all live that comes from [it. Marty Haugen does a beautiful job of renewing our concept of creation as something that is ongoing, with new relationships and actions being possible every day, as opposed to creation being a single, static act that happened long, long ago. Marty Haugen, an extremely prolific American hymn composer, wrote both the words and music for this song. He was raised in the American Lutheran Church, but found his first church musician position within the Roman Catholic Church at a time when the church was undergoing significant musical and liturgical renewal after Vatican II. Consequently, he found a vocation in responding to the need for music that was accessible for worship. He has published hundreds of hymns, mass settings, and anthems, and is currently composer-in-residence at Mayflower Community Congregational Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1228353167519824

Hunger Hurts - Hospitality Helps! Here is a cause near and dear to our community! Members of our congregation have been helping at the St. John's meal programme several times a year, as well as preparing the Christmas gift baskets. Thank you Hilda for walking and raising funds for this worthy cause year after year! Let's support Hilda and St. John's! All donations raised from the St. John's 5K Run- Walk will go directly to helping those in need in our community. For the... last 23 years every Saturday night hungry Londoners have been congregating in our parish hall for a hot meal and fellowship. St John's has continued to distribute take-out meals every Saturday during the pandemic. Our Outreach Committee also provides support to many new Canadians as they are adapting to a new way of life. Your support is greatly appreciated! https://www.canadahelps.org//sponso/captain/sponsor-hilda/

Behind the figure of one million people who have died from coronavirus are a million mothers and fathers; daughters and sons; grandparents and siblings; friends..., colleagues and neighbours. One million precious, beloved, irreplaceable children of God. Today is a dark and difficult day, for our nation and our world. It’s a day to grieve with those who grieve. To pray for those who suffer. To cry out to God in prayer for an end to this pandemic. But it’s also a day to remember that it was into a troubled, fearful and hurting world that God sent His only Son. To remember that Jesus Christ came not just to walk with us, but to lay down His life for us. There is no agony, trauma or grief that we are left to face alone. It is this Christ who accompanies us through any darkness, comforts us by his love, and offers hope through His light. In His name, we pray for the resilience and courage to keep going through this time of trial. ‘The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.’ (John 1:5)

Music reflection for the week: As we approach Thanksgiving, viewing the beautiful fall colours all around us, let’s keep the complementary themes of creation and gratitude close to our hearts. This week’s offering is Let’s Sing Unto the Lord (CP 417) by Carlos Rosas. We don’t sing this hymn anywhere near as often as we should, so it is nice to take this opportunity to appreciate it and increase our familiarity with it in this setting. Carlos Rosas is a Mexican church musi...Continue reading

RIDE team member Liam sits down over Zoom with five Freestyle participants to hear what the RIDE has been like this year. It's funny, inspiring (and even mentio...ns delicious baked goods at the end ). And while we're here - only FIVE days left until RIDE day! Still lots of time to register your team, gather your friends and select a fundraising activity you love. Do what you can, wherever you can at rideforrefuge.org #ride20

Dear Ones! Thank you so much for your well wishes. As I reflect, I realize I stand on the shoulders of so many. Laverne Jacobs and Norm Casey come to mind. I... am also in great debt to my teachers and mentors here in the Diocese of Huron, my family in LAIC and Bridgebuilders, and all those who have supported my ministries. This work has been ongoing by many people, by many of you. I wish to honour how far we have come and the work on the horizon in understanding truth and reconciliation, right relationship to the land and to each other. Knowing that this understanding comes from the clay each and every one of us are made from. Each of us has a truth to share in this process and I am here to walk with you. All of you who have come to give well wishes, I remember and see you. I give thanks to my people, my elders at Six Nations of the Grand River, and my family. I am so grateful for the traditional values you instill in me. Because of you I am aware of the constant revelation that we celebrate in Creator’s gifts in the Kanehelatuksla’. The revelation of the hearts of the Peacemaker, the Son of God, giving us, showing us, taking us toward The Good News, The Good Mind. I am always seeing this constant and circular revelation in you. Let us continue to pray for courage and grace in these strange, uncomfortable times, where transformation and new life from the dead are upon us! Ya wa ko

From Sarah. In our fourth week of the Season of Creation, we have a hymn suggestion from Elizabeth Eaton, the presiding Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. She suggests the hymn Light Dawns on a Weary World, which is published in the hymnals Evangelical Lutheran Worship, Glory to God, and RitualSong. It combines a recognition of the problems humanity is facing with a hopefulness towards the future where we can solve these problems, with God’s help. T...Continue reading
