Although our doors are temporarily closed once more, the work and witness of the parish continues. Many thanks to Barbara Lesperance for using her skills to bring beauty to our public face.
Advent begins this Sunday. Get that Advent calendar ready. If you have questions about the meaning and purpose of this season leading up to Christmas, let us know and we will respond.
We demonstrate our love for our neighbours in the simplest way, by loving at a distance. Please stay home as much as possible.
We welcome Bishop Kevin this Sunday to celebrate the Feast of St. Luke with us. The Rt. Rev. Kevin Robertson is the Area Bishop of York-Scarborough.
We begin the reflective season of Advent this Sunday November 29th. While we cannot meet together due to COVID 19 restrictions, as we light the candle of HOPE, please know that the parish of St. Luke’s continues its work and witness in the hope of Christ’s coming. Join us here each Sunday to hear the unfolding story of the Incarnation.
Sunday, November 22, 2020 Christ the King Hymn: Crown Him with Many Crowns Crown him with many crowns, the lamb upon his throne; hark, how the heavenly anthem d...rowns all music but it’s own! Awake, my soul and sing of him who died for thee, and hail him as thy matchless King through all eternity. Collect for the day. Almighty and everlasting God, whose will it is to restore all things in your well-beloved Son, our Lord and King, grant that the people of the earth now divided and enslaved by sin, may be freed and brought together under his gentle and loving rule; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
The joy of returning! The lovely hymn When God Restored Our Common Life has been in my heart all week.
Thanksgiving prayers for God’s abundance!
It was so good to be gathered (appropriately!) for Harvest Thanksgiving. Next week, Sunday Oct 18th is the the Feast of St. Luke, our patron. As it is our 150th year as a parish, it will be a very meaningful day and Bishop Kevin will be with us. Please contact the office by phone or email if you will be coming.
Due to circumstances beyond our control, Fr Nicos reflection for this Sunday is not available. We will be back next week.
Thanksgiving October 11, 2020
We look ahead to the Feasts of All Saints on Nov. 1 and All Souls on Nov. 2.
Wishing our Jewish friends, family and neighbours a very happy Rosh Hashanah. This is the Jewish New Year. It is followed by the solemn day of atonement on Yom Kippur. The traditional greeting is to wish for a sweet New Year and honey, dates, apples and other sweets are shared.
Reflection for Sunday, October 4, 2020. 18th Sunday after Pentecost. Almighty God, you have built your church on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Je...sus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone. Join us together in unity of spirit by their teaching, that we may become a holy temple, acceptable to you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you in the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Many have asked about the colours of the liturgical seasons. Here you are with the 2020 additions. Keep smiling when you can!
A little humour for October 4th Many churches in Canada celebrate the Feast of St Francis of Assisi on October 4 each year. The feast commemorates the life of St Francis, who was born in the 12th century and is the patron saint of animals and the environment. It is a popular day for pets to be blessed.
Collect for Holy Cross Day: Healer of the nations, your beloved was lifted on the wood of the cross and exalted as Lord of all creation. Grant that all who believe in him may have the gift of eternal life and share in the glory of your promised reign of justice and peace, Amen.
Give thanks with a grateful heart! Please join us on Sunday October 11th for our service of Harvest Thanksgiving at 10:30.
As we come back to the familiar in an unfamiliar time we bring buried griefs and hidden stresses. Do not be surprised if you find your heart ready to be broken open.
Dear St. Luke friends, many of you have been asking for more information about the passing of our sister in faith, Joanne McMinn. Here is her obituary, with thanks to Laurel for forwarding it to us.
Your morning Bible Study...
For Sunday September 13
Growing stronger while growing smaller?
A great deal of time has passed since we had our last in person service at St. Lukes. As we get ready to reopen for our first in person service since March, we have indicated where people are able to sit to safely social distance. Thank you to everyone who has signed up to attend this coming Sundays service!
Sept 11th, 2020 On a day when we stare into the face of human tragedy resulting from our human choices, let us look both inward and outward.
Such a needed message.
We just report this stuff...
Also, they have trouble keeping their masks on.
Collect for the nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary transferred to September 5. Eternal God, who revealed the mystery of your loving providence in the birth of ...Mary, the mother of our Lord, grant that we who now call her blessed may be clothed with the light of your new creation and rejoice with her in the radiance of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. A Prayer of Blessing for Labour Day Bless the work of our hands, O God. Bless the hands that work the land; hands that move earth, plant seeds and harvest, hands with callouses and dirty fingernails, strong hands.... Bless the hands that use machines; hands that drive cars, trucks and forklifts, hands on computer keyboards, capable hands. Bless the hands that make things; hands that manufacture and create, working wood and metal and plastic, practical hands. Bless the hands that clean; hands that wash, mop and scrub, hands that know what to do with soap, determined hands. Bless the hands that make music and art; hands that play instruments and hold paintbrushes, hands that are creative tools, artistic hands. Bless the hands that care for people; hands that cook and feed, heal and nurture, hands with a gentle touch, loving hands. Bless the hands that are generous; hands that give away money and food, hands that are always trying to be empty, Christ-like hands. Bless the tiny, baby hands. Bless the strong adult hands. Bless the hands that are folded in prayer. Bless the hands that are lifted in praise. Our hands do the work of your hands, O God our Creator. Amen
Oh well, more of us may be feeling a little like Yoda when we re-open St. Lukes for worship on Sept. 13. Half our pews are roped off and seating has been marked at appropriate distances. So, if your favourite pew is unavailable, rest assured, worship will be just as meaningful one pew up. Looking forward to seeing you!

Such a vital teaching for this time in which we live.

This video will show you, in general terms, how our churches will be opening, with safety and health foremost in mind. In the coming days, Fr Nico will be showing you the set-up at St. Lukes as we prepare to join in worship at 10:30 on Sept. 13th.

I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go to the house of the Lord.
August 23, 2020 Collect for the 12th Sunday after Pentecost. Almighty God, we are taught by your word that all our doings without love are worth nothing. Send y...our Holy Spirit and pour into our hearts that most excellent gift of love, the true bond of peace and of all virtue; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Enter His courts with thanksgiving! September 13 will be the day we can re-open under the Diocesan Amber Stage Guidelines.
One of our parishioners has spear-headed this wonderful initiative- 2 days harvest (51.6 lb) donated to North York Harvest, supplying Toronto food banks. This is a shout out to the small group of staff at Northern Secondary in Toronto who have been caring for the students garden since the COVID shut-down: Barbara Ann, Stephanie, Jane, Stefan, Joan & Susan. Thank you all. You are a blessing to the community.
Collect for the 11th Sunday after Pentecost. Oh my God, you have broken the tyranny of sin and sent into our hearts the spirit of your son. Give us grace to dedicate our freedom to your service, that all people may know the glorious liberty of the children of God; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you in the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
