Clarification re: Recent case and bulletins. The Porcupine Health Unit has reported two separate situations in the last couple of days and this has caused some ...confusion. The two situations are unrelated. A positive COVID-19 case was reported for the Hearst/Hornepayne area on the morning of October 15th as part of the Daily Update. This individual is at home in self-isolation. Two bulletins were reported on October 14th and 15th regarding a positive test result that was received as part of surveillance testing within long term care homes outside of the Hearst/Hornepayne area. This test was further investigated. Based on the investigation, it has been determined that this individual does not meet the definition of a confirmed case of COVID-19 and will not be counted as a positive case.

One of our daughters shared this with us. Sadly, some of it is all too true. Clergy are being asked, why aren't we having public worship services yet, other... churches are? For some, they have staff to help, including professional cleaners, secretaries, custodians. For some, sourcing approved cleaners and supplies has been easier. Orders placed months ago are still on back order, for others. For some, there is only one building in the parish. For others there are three or more buildings. Some are being asked - this doesn't apply to all churches, does it? Yes, yes it does. Some are being asked - we have the pews, can't we just sit where we used to? Maybe yes, maybe no. There are careful plans about which pews can be used and which ones can't. Some churches that have seating for 100+, will only be able to have 30 (sometimes, even fewer) because of distances. Some with smaller, tighter spaces, will only be able to house even fewer worshipers - and, this is no small hurdle. Identifying people to volunteer to take on new tasks - disinfection and deep cleaning after each service, greeting people and asking screening questions, keeping a list of all in attendance and their contact information. Putting all of this in place takes time and careful planning. Things will be drastically different - but, it is out of a deep love and concern for each other that due care and diligence is taking place. Promise you - no one wants to be back worshiping together more than our clergy. Finally, no, not all are back to public worship yet - some are taking longer for very specific reasons. Our clergy are hearing the hearts of those who want to get back right away AND those who are very frightened about it. Ask - but, be willing to listen, too. See more

My thanks to the people of St. Luke's Hornepayne for they way they deported themselves this morning in our reopening service. In spite of the strangeness of masks, distancing, no hymns, no chalice, etc. the congregation observed all protocols without complaint. We had a meaningful return to worship.

A BLESSING VIA LIVESTREAM from the portico of Bishophurst (Sault Ste. Marie) Sunday afternoon, May 3, at 2:00 pm. Archbishop Anne Germond invites all people wit...hin the Dioceses of Algoma and Moosonee (and those beyond our boundaries) to receive a blessing via livestream from the portico of Bishophurst (Sault Ste. Marie), the official residence of the Bishop , on Sunday afternoon, May 3, at 2:00 pm. The livestream may be viewed on the Diocesan Facebook page at Diocese of Algoma: Shaped by a Living Hope. This Sunday is known in the church as "Good Shepherd Sunday." It is a day when the church prays for vocations to ministry, and for the care and leadership exercised by all people in the home, government, school, or workplace. It is also an occasion the church gives thanks particularly for those who serve those enduring poverty, sickness, homelessness, and other need. The church gives thanks for all essential workers and those who are caring for others as we deal with the current COVID-19 pandemic. It has been praying for our world and for those impacted directly by the virus. The prayer offered by the Archbishop extends the church's hand of blessing and thanksgiving to all who work so hard for our community during this very challenging time, and to those who are fearful, anxious, or afraid. Archbishop Anne looks forward to blessing you and your families on Good Shepherd Sunday afternoon. Stay safe! See more

Churches are asked to ring their church bells on Friday, April 24th, at 6pm in memory of the victims of the Nova Scotia shooting. One ring for each victim which..., I believe, would now mean 23 rings. A small gesture amidst a great tragedy but it needs to be done as a sign of respect and solidarity. See more

Our Lenten Study was so rudely interrupted by COVID-19. I encourage people to look up the life of "St. Perpetua and Her Companions" on line. She is a wonderful inspiration, as is Felicity and the other martyrs, who stayed faithful amidst terrible suffering and persecution. A wonderful group of saints to study any time, but especially during this outbreak.
