While our store is closed this Boxing Day, with your help we’re hoping to feed 100 local families in need for a week. For each sale processed Saturday, December 26th & Sunday, December 27th we will be donating 10 non-perishable food items to the Ottawa Food Bank. The Ottawa Food Bank provides fresh and non-perishable food, as well as supplies such as diapers, toiletries, and cleaning supplies to its network of over 100 emergency food programs across the city. Their main goal... is being able to provide emergency food relief to families in need in our city, while working towards doing food banking better, improving access to healthier food and cultivating social innovation in food banking. In continuing with our commitment to provide fair prices on ethically-made, quality goods, 365 days a year, we will be abstaining from any Boxing Day sales this holiday season. Like Black Friday, Boxing Day relies on a business model centred on overproduction, bait and switch marketing and hidden margins. The complete opposite of what we believe in. We care about where our goods are made, what they are made from and how they are made. They are garments meant to stand the test of time. Products you can care for and treasure for years to come. This of course comes at a cost. A cost we believe is intrinsic to determining a product’s value. Black Friday relies o...n a business model centred on overproduction, bait and switch marketing and hidden margins. The complete opposite of what we believe in. The notion of investing in an item simply because it is on sale may lead to a big sales day, but it also leads to mindless consumption and unwanted purchases. The environmental and social costs related to this over-consumption are extensive, including; water pollution, waste accumulation, soil degradation, greenhouse gas emissions and labour exploitation (To learn more about the fashion industry’s impact on the environment, click the link in bio). This year is especially different. With the added risk of the Coronavirus, and our attempt to minimize the spread and keep our staff and customers safe, this Friday, November 27th, we will not be participating in any Black Friday sales promotions.
