In celebration of Black History Month, we will be posting about clinicians who made a significant impact in the physiotherapy field. Today, we remember Dr. Lynda Woodruff. Lynda D. Woodruff was an African-American physiotherapist, who was a champion for justice and equitable healthcare. She integrated the Lynchburg, Virginia School System, then received her B.A. degree in psychology and M.S. degree in physical therapy from Case Western Reserve University; the first post-bacca...laureate physical therapy program in the nation. As Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy, she founded and directed the award-winning program for Minority Student Recruitment and Retention at Georgia State University. She was also founding chair of the Department of Physical Therapy at the North Georgia College in Dahlonega, Ga. Dr. Woodruff’s work advanced the evidence-based approach to physical therapy practice in areas such as clinical electrophysiology, laser therapy and health disparities. She was a founding member of the American Academy of Physical Therapy, as well as a member of the American Physical Therapy Association. As a member of the Partners of the Americas, she worked to create collaborations between students in Brazil and North America in order to establish an exchange program between the two nations for physiotherapy students. Dr. Woodruff passed away in 2018. See more

New Years Resolutions can be fun! But they can also be challenging to achieve. Here are some tips on setting and attaining goals: Keep them realistic. Instead of "Learn to speak a new language", set a goal of "Begin to learn a new language" or "take a _______ class"... Make them attractive. If you are trying to kick a bad habit, focus on the positive, attractive part of the goal. Why are you wanting to change this habit? What goal will this change ultimately achieve? Make it fun. If you have fun doing it, it's easier to achieve! Don't make a goal you are going to hate doing. If you don't like reading, don't try to read 24 books in 12 months. If your goal is to be more active, then be more active doing something you enjoy! What goals are you setting for yourself this year?

H N Y! This has been a year like no other, but it is coming to an end! 2021 is going to challenge us, and we have to keep our heads high and be ready for it. One thing to help prepare you for the year to come is to celebrate what you accomplished this year. Even during a global pandemic, what did you accomplish? Did you spend more time with family? (Even if it had to be virtual) Finally set up a home gym?... Go for more hikes? Finish an online course? Learn a TikTok dance? (or 6) Take up a new hobby? Try something new? Even the less obvious accomplishments are worth celebrating. Did you adapt to working from home? Did you get out of bed most days? Did you purposefully do something that brings you joy? Did you drink more water? Congratulations on everything you accomplished, no matter how big or how small. We celebrate these along with you (just from several feet apart). Here's to another year of adapting, challenges, perseverance, and spirit. We can't wait to see all that you accomplish in the months to come.

When we return on December 28th, the safety of our clients and staff remains our number one priority. We have rigorous sanitation procedures in place. All persons entering the clinic must be wearing a mask and complete our COVID screen. Staggered appointment times and less staff ensures fewer people in the clinic at one time. And so much more. For more details, visit strivept.ca/Covid-19

: Can we be real with you? "Tech Neck" sucks. As does the back pain, wrist pain, or other difficulties resulting from your body not loving your work life. As you can see in the Tech Neck blog post, technology, while opening up many possibilities and making our personal and work lives more efficient, has played a role in negatively impacting our posture.... To correct these work-related posture problems, many have turned to ergonomics. What is Ergonomics? Ergonomics is the study of people in their working environment with the goal of minimizing discomfort and increasing efficiency. Basically, change or design the workplace to fit the person. Sounds great, right? Check it out! https://strivept.ca/ergonomics-making-your-office-work-for/

Today we remember all those who fought and sacrificed their lives so that we may live in peace. May we honour their memory. "Whether we live together in confidence and cohesion; with more faith and pride in ourselves and less self-doubt and hesitation; strong in the conviction that the destiny of Canada is to unite, not divide; sharing in cooperation, not in separation or in conflict; respecting our past and welcoming our future." Lester Pearson
