The Stuart Racing team was out hunting for another IHRA Iron Man this past weekend at Grand Bend Motorplex. The annual event, now in its 17th year, draws out the best sportsman racers from Canada and the United States. Stuart Racing was competing in the Good Vibrations Top Sportsman category which this weekend had two separate races (1 Saturday, 1 Sunday). In Saturday’s race, our day ended early with a 0.002 red-light reaction time in round one. ... Sunday race brought about some better fortune as Tom Stuart received a single in the first round due to having the best reaction time of the field in qualifying with a 0.010 second reaction time. In the second round, Stuart lost to Ian Hill in his 1969 Camaro when Hill’s Camaro ran closer to the dial than Stuart’s Firebird. The teams next race is in 4 days! The event is the Nitro Nationals at Toronto Motorsports Park. Special thanks to Ray-Mac CARQUEST of Chatham, Petrolia and Forest, Ontario and Huron Construction Limited of Chatham, Ontario.

The Stuart Racing team was back in action this past weekend at Grand Bend Motorplex for the inaugural Burndown at the Bend presented by DSE Sportsman Racing Promotions. Qualifying for the Quick 16 eliminator took place on Saturday and driver Tom Stuart laid down three solid runs with a 7.32, 7.37 and 7.34 second elasped time on the mile. That performance was good enough for the #4 qualified position. On Sunday, the racers were faced with challenging weather conditions. The ...temperatures were much cooler (55F) and the wind was very strong. The wind was so strong that racing was shortened to only 1/8th of a mile due to safety concerns. Teams were allowed one time trial to the 1/8th mile and Stuart ran a 4.65 second elapsed time at 146 mph. In round one of eliminations Stuart was paired against K.C Kovacs in his rear engine dragster. Kovacs had a very good reaction time with a 0.010. Even though Stuart ran right on the dial-in, 4.635 on a 4.63, Kovacs took the win running 0.01 seconds off of his dial-in. The teams next race is in two weeks for the 17th Annual IHRA Mopar Canadian Nationals at Grand Bend Motorplex. Special thanks to Ray-Mac CARQUEST of Chatham, Petrolia and Forest, Ontario and Huron Construction Limited of Chatham, Ontario. Also, thanks to DSE Promotions, R&L Racing, Williams Mobile Service and all of the sponsors that helped make the Burndown at the Bend a successful event.

The Stuart Racing team was back in action this past weekend at Toronto Motorsports Park, Cayuga Dragway. The event was first race of the 2016 Napa Autopro Ultimate Showdown series. Qualifying began on Saturday and Tom Stuart qualified #5 with a best of 7.29 seconds at 188 miles per hour. First round of eliminations was on Sunday morning and Tom Stuart was paired against Mike Ledger in his 1994 Chevrolet Lumina. In the race, both drivers had comparable lights (0.020 to 0.025) ...but Stuart’s race car lost power shortly after the high gear shift. The race car regained power about two seconds later but by that time Ledger had pulled too far ahead and took the victory. Mike Ledger continued on through eliminations and was the overall event champion. Special thanks to Ray-Mac CARQUEST of Chatham, Petrolia and Forest, Ontario and Huron Construction Limited of Chatham, Ontario. The team’s next event is June 10-12 at Grand Bend Motorplex for the DSE Burndown at the Bend.

Stuart Racing report from Night of Nitro @ Grand Bend Motorplex The Stuart Racing team participated in the final race of the 2015 season this past weekend at Grand Bend Motorplex. The event was annual Night of Nitro event presented by Teamsters Canada Local 879 and the team was running in the ultra-competitive Ultimate Showdown series. Qualifying began on Friday evening and Stuart started the weekend off well running a 7.16 second elapsed time. Qualifying continued on Saturda...y afternoon. Stuart ran a 7.29 in the heat of the day using the race day tune-up. For the final qualifying session on Saturday, the team tried to improve on their Friday night run and did so, running 7.147 seconds at 192 mph. That run was good enough for the #15 qualified position (There are only 16 cars in the qualified field) Stuart’s first round opponent was Rob Gray of Ingersoll, Ontario. Gray qualified seventh with a 6.86 second elapsed time. Stuart got the early reaction time advantage of 0.01 seconds and took the win by a narrow margin of only 0.003 seconds! In the second round, Stuart faced Milan, Michigan’s Ricky Adkins in his turbocharged 1937 Chevrolet. Unfortunately, this one was over early as Stuart left too soon by 0.006 seconds. The culprit was due to the car rocking in the stage beam and unfortunately the car did not stop rocking in time before the green light came on. Adkins went on to win the event. The team was pleased to qualify in the tough field and make it past the first round. Special thanks this season to Huron Construction of Chatham and Ray-Mac CARQUEST of Chatham.

Second Round exit for Stuart Racing at IHRA NITROJAM Nationals This past weekend the Stuart Racing Team competed in the rain delayed Mopar IHRA NITROJAM Nationals presented by Williams Racing. The team was competing in the Top Sportsman division. Qualifying began on Saturday morning and Tom Stuart qualified 12th with a 7.26 second elapsed time at 189 mph. The team was happy with that performance given the challenging heat and track conditions.... In the first round of competition, Stuart was selected to receive the competition single, if there was a odd number of competitors. As the team waited out the class pairings, there was indeed an odd number of competitors so Tom Stuart took the single run to advance to the second round. The second round of all classes began on Sunday. Our second round opponent was a familiar face in Ken Langlois of Milan, Michigan. Stuart and Langlois have raced many times over the past two decades. During the race, Langlois got the slight advantage at the Christmas tree with a 0.008 second reaction time to Stuart’s 0.015. Soon after the launch, Stuart experienced a problem with the nitrous system and slowed. Without the nitrous, Stuart was unable to run close to his dial-in of 7.29 seconds and Langlois lifted early for the easy win. Langlois went on to runner-up in Top Sportsman eliminator. The team’s next event is Labour Day weekend at Grand Bend Motorplex.

Runner up finish for Stuart Racing at Victoria Day Spring Blowout This past weekend, the Stuart Racing team began their 2015 season at Grand Bend Motorplex with the Leaf Racewear Victoria Day Spring Blowout presented by Rocksledge & Veloce Italian Kitchen. From the weather perspective, it was one of the most pleasant May 2-4 weekends that we have raced at in many (many) years with no rain or snow delays! Tom Stuart entered the Stuart Racing Firebird into the Quick 32 Sportsm...an Series. Qualifying began on Saturday and Stuart qualified very well running a 7.256 and 7.262 elapsed time. Those efforts were good enough for the #8 qualified position. During Sunday’s eliminations, Tom Stuart took out Doug Blowes of Stratford in round 1, Ken Langlois of Milan, Michigan in round 2, Bill Wilson of Ingersoll in the semi finals and that left Kevin Wicke, also of Stratford, Ontario as the final round opponent. The final was a great race between two great drivers. Wicke got a slight starting line advantage of 0.004 seconds and his car ran 0.002 seconds closer to the dial-in for a total margin of victory of 0.006 seconds! The Stuart Racing Team is pleased with the performance of the race car and driver and a runner up finish in the first race sure helps carry some confidence into the rest of the season.
