This is a bit of a different post today. We’d like to introduce you to someone special who has behind the scenes at Summerside these last few months. Meet Tokaj. Many of us here have worked with her for over 8 years. We’ve watched her blossom from an energetic high school cheerleader with big dreams, to an enthusiastic student at St. George’s Veterinary Program in Grenada. We were so fortunate to have Tokaj join us this summer and fall; her wealth of information, her enthusiasm, and readiness to help have been such an asset to the clinic. Sadly, it’s time for us to say goodbye to her again as she heads off on her next journey: to complete her veterinary studies at the world-renowned Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. We are really going to miss her smiling face around here, but we are so excited to see her fulfill her dream!

As we take the time to honour the brave men and women who fought for our country, let us also take the time to also remember the animals that sacrificed their lives to give us our freedom. Animals have played a large contribution in many wars and continue to serve in our police and military forces today. They give so much and ask so little in return. Lest we forget. https://youtu.be/BApFaTt-_kE

Once your pet receives their diagnosis, your veterinarian will schedule you a diabetic consult with one of our Registered Veterinary Technologists, who will review everything from giving insulin, to diet changes, to possible complications. November is National Diabetes Month, not just for humans but for pets too! Diabetes mellitus is a relatively common condition in both cats and dogs in which the body either isn’t producing enough insulin (Type I) or not responding to the insulin it produces (Type II). Dogs almost exclusively get Type I, whereas cats may get either type (Type II being more common in sedentary, indoor felines that are overweight). Unfortunately, there is a growing prevalence of this disease ...Continue reading
