The squiggle game is a fun way to pass time for all ages (these ones are from my husband and I earlier today!) Start by giving each person a piece of paper and a drawing utensil. Then each make a squiggle on the page. It can be as big or small, and as simple or complex as you like. Then, trade papers and see what image you can find in the others persons squiggle! Try rotating the paper and seeing if any other ops ages stand out, and then use markers or crayons to add details. This activity is fun and sure to provoke lots of laughter!

A good reminder for all of us!

Salt dough is an easy to make material that can be used by the whole family! It’s super soft, easy to sculpt, and dries hard with no cracking. -1 cup flour -1/2 cup salt -1 tbsp oil... -1 cup boiled water Mix the first three ingredients, then slowly add the hot water, mixing with a spoon until a dough like consistency is reached. Keep uncovered until the dough is fully cooled, then it can be stored in an airtight container. A fun activity with salt dough is asking your family If you were an animal today (real or imaginary) what would you be? and sculpting that animal. Once they are dry, try painting them!

Slime is another activity that is popular with children, and perfect to do at home! Playing with slime is a sensory experience that can soothe the nervous system, reducing stress. After creating hundreds of batches of slime with my clients, I have found this recipe to work the best... cup white school glue (the amount in a standard sized glue bottle) 1 tsp baking soda 2-4 tbsp contact lens solution... Colouring (food dye or liquid watercolour) Empty the glue bottle in to a bowl, then mix in the baking soda. Slowly add the colour until the desired shade is achieved (this is a good step for grown-ups to help with!). Slowly add the contact solution until the slime has formed. When there is enough added, it will be stretchy, but not stick to hands. Pre-measuring ingredients helps to ensure your child will be successful in creating their slime. By placing the bowl on a large baking tray, the mess created can also be reduced. Enjoy! See more

With Saskatchewan schools closing due to the Covid-19 pandemic, activities for parents and children to do together are important! Making art together helps to build connection, reduce stress, and promote good mental health for everyone. One activity that you can do at home with your children is scribble tag. Starting with a large sheet of paper, each person chooses a marker or crayon and draws a safe space where they can not be tagged. Somebody is it, and scribbles and draws their marker across the paper to try and tag the other person! While very simple, this activity can provide tons of entertainment and laughter!
