Let us all hope 2021 will be everything humanity is hoping for. Happy New Year everybody!

I started thinking I'm going crazy and paranoid over the last few weeks. I can now say I have confirmed the ghosts in the machine are real. This is what has been happening to my wife and I lately. A couple of weeks ago we visited our family friends who showed us a ninja air fryer they had just bought. When we returned home that day, on my wife's facebook feed there was an ad for the very same product. We thought it was very strange as she has never done a search or watch a vi...Continue reading

So, I had just started putting a file server together (on the left; unfinished) when the PC on the right made it to the bench for service. Even if this is a side nobody will ever see (at least until you need service), this is just one of the many reasons why a custom built is always better to be built by a professional. At Techmania, not only we sell the components and we build custom PCs, but we also offer our customers the ability to bring us their own components for us to build/upgrade them properly. So if you are worried (and if you are not, you should be) that you might damage something or end up with a mess and a spaghetti (that in it's own turn will reduce airflow, increase internal temperatures and reduce longevity and performance of your PC), just bring what you have to us :)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AG_ZHi3tuyk It was too good to be true! nVidia promised the new RTX 3080 cards will have double the performance of a RTX 2080Ti! Finally youtubers have the founder's edition and the embargo is lifted allowing them to do tests before they hit the market. Turns out they have on average a 20% better performance than a 2080Ti in gaming/FPS. I'm not saying it's all that bad but for those who already own a 2080/2080Ti, there is definitely an argument to be made they should keep their cards and not upgrade. But for those who are already drooling over them, well, Techmania is in line to receive them soon as they become available in Canada. Stay tuned :)

Not to feed anyone's paranoia, but between the Huawei incident and now this, we can assume that someone somewhere is "watching and listening" to what we are doing on our phones. And if this is a surprise, just think that it's so much more prevalent on a computer. All you have to do is google for a certain type pf product i.e. men's watches and next thing you know, all of the sudden you get banner ads advertising items similar to your previous searches. This practice is common...ly accepted by all users (just think every time you install an app on your phone, what you agree on it to have access to whether it's your contacts, photos, search history, e.t.c.) and really, if you want to be online with mainstream OS (Operating Systems) you really have no choice. So it doesn't matter if you are using MS Windows, Apple OS, iOS, Android or other, in the end of the day, there is no such thing as privacy. Companies pay huge amounts of money to collect data from people's usage so they can tailor ads directed to the individual users or use the data to come up with the next big thing. And maybe, in between all that, your government (or a foreign one in the case of Huawei) might be listening in too. Buyer beware. See more

This might also explain why in Canada there had been no imports of refurbished laptops from USA over the past few months; they are keeping everything for their own market. While we have been constantly trying to get the best deals for laptops for our customers, this year has been extremely difficult. Due to the high demand and very sporadic supply (there is actually no inventory left anywhere in Canada), we have seen prices jump anywhere form 50% to 100% compared to last year.... This has moved the needle of a "good deal" for a laptop, from an average of $400 to now being $600. Perhaps its time parents considered getting their kids actual PCs instead. There is still plenty of availability on high powered refurbished business grade computers that are perfect for school or work from home, between $200 and $300 like this one for only $199: https://www.techmania.ca//lenovo-m78p-a8-6500-8gb-new-240/ See more

Incredible captains skills save a 4 year old who had been swept away from the shore on a unicorn buoy. The captain slowed down the ferry and maneuvered it in such a way that the buoy just "ended up" on the ramp! Yeap, that guy is a real "boss" and the whole things was miraculous. BRAVO!

Life imitating art...from movies to games, the idea of "augmentation" is not new. What is new however is that Musk is making this a real possibility with endless potential (both good and bad depending on how it will be used, just like any other invention). And generally speaking, if it was anyone else I might had rolled my eyes, but this is coming from the same guy who among other things has been developing (in very simplistic terms) super batteries to power whole houses and cars, autonomous vehicle driving, living on Mars and so much more. AI=Musk!

Us Canadians always take pride in helping each other and the ones in need. This is for a member of our community and we ask for your help. The people who know the family or the residents of Porters Lake will remember the tragic workplace accident that took young Brandons life. Unfortunately for a family and kids that lost also their mother not too long ago, things have been rough. Larry, the father, when faced with the devastating news, found the courage to make something meaningful out of his sons demise and donated his organs to help others survive. They deserve your help and support. Please donate if you can, anything you can.Thank you.

We are here ready for any support to the community

Techmania Canada 24.10.2019

This is a very inspirational article from one of our local community members dedicated to small businesses. From both a financial standpoint and a human one too, small businesses (and their employees) suffer together with everyone else and they are trying to figure out "what is the next step; should I close shop and send everyone home or should I try to stay and offer my product/services to the community as much as I can?". The reality is that small businesses are the backbo...ne of the economy; whether its local customer support, local jobs, local charities and donations, local rents; local banking, local support of many more businesses and local trades, etc. This is not the time to maximize ones profits. This is the time to try and survive, try to provide for your staff and for your neighborhood to the best of your ability. Information is key and Ms. Knott is right; at Techmania we receive many calls from people trying to find out if we are still open. Im sure many other businesses are too. Let your customers and communities know if you are still operational, what has changed in the way you are doing business, what precautions you are taking to protect both the public and your staffs health and what you are doing to help. And there is no better place to announce all that than your website. Kudos for the article Ms. Alison Knott See more

Our new hours are: ... Monday - Friday: 11am to 6pm Saturday: 11am to 5pm Sunday: CLOSED We are suspending ALL in-store and on-site services. We will not accept any parts or devices in-store. We are suspending all returns and warranty exchanges or repairs until further notice. As such, any purchase going forward will be considered final. "People who owned iPhone 7 models or older will get $25 for each handset"... in US. My thoughts? Apple has great products but at the same time has exploited their brand loyalty too much with very expensive products and repairs respectively and maintain the monopoly in schematics and parts trying to stop repair shops from fixing their products forcing their clients to circle back to Apple for repairs. On the other hand, the Android (and windows) field has everybody else (literally) competing for a market share so products and prices are normalized. Perhaps brand loyalty is not always rewarding?
