With January usually comes the overheard motivational sentences such as new year, new me or no pain, no gain. Kanehsata’kehró:non Kaniehtawaks Lauder wanted to go beyond that mentality.

This past holiday season, as we all scrambled to adorn our homes with festive decorations to provide a feeling of comfort and familiarity, Kahnawa’kehró:non Theresa McComber had an idea. During what she called, pandemic cleaning, McComber’s husband Alex came across an old sled in their house, traced back to 1956.

It was supposed to be the start of their lives. In a horrific twist of events, what was meant to be a simple day of fishing, became a calamity for the families of two budding young men.

A cannabis store in Kanesatake went up in flames early Friday morning, leaving nothing but the container’s carcass behind and a herbal smell lingering in the cold winter air.

She had left her job as a teacher in Two Mountains, where she taught for more than 25 years, wishing to get closer to her family in Oka.... But before Genevieve had time to call it home, her dream went up in flames.

After 25 years in operation, Dodas Tickle Trunk, a classic Kahnawake institution, is no more. In a way, it is sad, but my volunteers are all over 75. We are concerned about catching COVID-19. On Monday afternoon, photos and videos started circulating on social media, showing what appeared to be high school students from Howard S. Billings, crammed together in the cafeteria, sitting shoulder-to-shoulder and not practicing social distancing. Many parents shared their frustration and outrage online and questioned the schools health and safety protocols, which they said Billings had assured them would be implemented. Shot hundreds of feet over the G&R Recycling property in Kanesatake, the drone footage is damning. It highlights the environmental impact of a system that has allowed construction sites across Quebec to use Mohawk land as a place to get rid of their refuse. The footage, first obtained by The Eastern Door and later leaked to YouTube by a whistleblower, exposes the reality of the controversial recycling site.... Stay in the know - right here!

The Irish national lacrosse team announced that they would voluntarily withdraw from the 2022 World Games last week. The opening allowed the Iroquois Nationals to take their spot in the eight-team tournament, in Birmingham, Alabama in July 2022. They will compete against Australia, Canada, Germany, Great Britain, Israel, Japan and the United States.... Read more here!

After overcoming many obstacles, Des Cultures Wind Farm Project finally broke ground on Monday (August 31). And to mark the occasion, a sunrise ceremony took place at the projects location in the municipalities of St. Remi and St. Michel. Read more here!

On Friday, August 28, the ministry of Environment and Climate Change released a notice to withdraw the permit allowing G&R recycling to operate; due, it said, to a breach of the conditions imposed by the Quebec Environment Quality Act. Read more here!
