With everyone working from home and doing virtual learning, we're spending more time than ever on screens! Is blue light from screens harmful and are blue light blocking lenses necessary? Read my blog post to learn more!
Lockdown 2.0 is here in Ontario, and our eyes are exposed to a LOT of blue light from electronic devices these days with everything being virtual! Between the computer, phone, tablet, and TV, we are spending most of the day looking at screens. So is blue light damaging to the retina? And do you need blue light blocking lenses? So far, there isn’t any clinical evidence to show that blue light from LED screens is actually hazardous.... My recommendations: Much of the eye strain people experience with excessive digital device use is due to something called Digital Eye Strain eye fatigue, burning, dryness, redness, blurry vision, double vision... If this sounds like you, check out my previous posts on how to reduce Digital Eye Strain! & Eat a healthy diet: Lutein & Zeaxanthin are antioxidants found in vegetables & fruit that are natural blue blockers in your retina Wear sunglasses with 100% UV protection Quit smoking - Blue light DOES disrupt your sleep-wake cycle (Circadian rhythm) and reduces your sleep quality. Putting your devices onto Night mode also helps to reduce blue light before bed. Limit screen time for children Children are still developing so monitoring their screen time is still strongly recommended. HAPPY ZOOMING EVERYONE!
