Asking for help isn’t always easy for everyone. Sometimes as friends and family we need to look out for those closest to us. If you think someone you know might be experiencing hearing loss, here is a list of common signs to watch for. * They appear to hear people talk but have difficulty understanding some of the words. * They’re constantly asking people to repeat themselves.... * They have a hard time understanding women and children’s voices. * They have a hard time understanding in a crowd. * It’s hard for them to understand on the phone. * They favor one ear over the other. * They complain of a ringing sensation in one or both ears. * They often appear uncomfortable in social occasions they used to enjoy. * They seem withdrawn, depressed or irritable. * Other friends or family members have noticed their difficulty hearing. Most people wait years before they seek help, and this is why they need support from their friends and family. Hearing loss is more common than you think, and we are here to help break the stigma around it. Let’s all work together by talking to one and another. Staying Healthy From The Inside Out - Who doesn’t love seeing all the steps they’ve taken in a day? Most people wear their fitness trackers on their wrist, but did you know Scientists have proven that the ear is the more reliable place to track the bodies movement and health? In 2015 Outside magazine wrote:... While the wrist is full of muscles and tendons that move, the ear is all cartilage and about the most inert part of your body. It’s also dark and the arteries here are near the surface of the skin. Shove a sensor into your ear and the signal is about 100 times clearer than at the wrist. And MIT Technology Review agrees, writing in 2014, If you’re going to choose a place on the body to measure physical signalstwo places are far and away the best: the ear and the rear. I bet you’re thinking, what does this have to do with my hearing? The HLC team believes in health and well-being from the inside out. Taking care of yourself helps you take care the ones you love. We are committed to helping you maintain a healthy and happy life. We offer state of the art hearing tech to ensure this is possible at any stage of your life. The Livio AI, is the worlds first hearing aid that can help track body and brain health. All while helping you hear better, and in turn live better. As the first hearing aids with 3D motion sensors and built-in artificial intelligence, not only do Livio AI sound fantastic, but along with the Thrive Hearing app they let you reliably monitor your steps and overall movement, and measure actions that are good for your brain health, like daily usage of your hearing aids, social engagement, and time spent listening actively. No wonder they were named TIME Magazine Best Invention in 2019! Track your steps, hear better, live better, and love a little more! Season 25 of @bachelorabc kicked off Monday night, and it’s already our FAVOURITE season!!! The beautiful @abigail_heringer , is the show's first deaf contestant. We think she’s going to win the heart of @mattjames919 , who is also making history this season as the first Black "Bachelor." Abigail was born completely deaf, and at the age of two she received a cochlear implant. We were so happy to see her speak so openly on the first episode. We hope that Abigail’s presence on... national TV continues to break down the stigma on hearing loss and deafness. While igniting a conversation across the world. Modern technology has made huge advancements in the hearing loss arena. You can sync your phone to your hearing aid, answer calls, and no one would even know you were wearing one. Hearing loss and deafness can negatively impact every part of your life if you let it. The Hearing Loss Clinic Team is here to help and support you and your loved ones. Another reason to stay on top of your hearing: Research shows that untreated hearing loss at any stage has an impact on how the brain distributes its energy and resources. This means a heavier cognitive load and more fatigue on your brain. This applies to all levels of hearing loss, from mild to profound. Never had your hearing checked before? As we strive to stay healthier and live longer, we often look to health and fitness trackers to help us with our exercise goals. Well did you know one of the most reliable parts of your body to track movement is through the ear? Scientists have found that the ear is actually a more ideal place for tracking fitness and motion compared to the wrist! This means devices in the ear are more accurate than wrist worn devices. With Starkey Hearing Livio Edge AI devices, you can trac...k how many steps youve taken and how many minutes of exercise youve completed each day! These devices have tiny motion sensors built into them to monitor your physical movement. You can view your activity levels on the Thrive Mobile App on your phone. Not only do you get the benefits of better hearing, but you can keep an eye on physical activity. Back-to-school backpack essentials for hard-of-hearing kids! Along with the usual school supplies, here are some items to include in your childs backpack on the first day of school: -Spare batteries or chargers for hearing aids, sound processors, and assistive-listening devices.... -If your child is older and able to handle basic maintenance, a couple of spare cleaning supplies for hearing aids, such as a soft cleaning brush and disinfectant wipes. -Hearing aid fabric cover, adhesive or cord/clip. These supplies are used to keep the hearing devices dry and in place when the child is active. FACT: Untreated hearing loss may result in long-term consequences to healthy brain functioning. Past studies have shown that treating hearing loss by wearing hearing aids reduces the risk of cognitive decline associated with hearing loss. Researcher Dr. Frank Lin from John Hopkins University recommends treating hearing loss before brain structural changes take place. He states if you want to address hearing loss well do it sooner rather than later. If you havent had you...r hearing checked, theres no better time than now. Did you know: People who work in logging or forestry have a higher percentage of hearing loss than all noise-exposed industries combined. At least 20% of the workers in this industry have a hearing loss, higher than workers in other noisy industries! Some other noise-exposed industries are construction, mining, oil and gas, firefighting and police protection to name a few. Here are a couple of tips to prevent noise-induced hearing loss:... -Do your best to avoid loud environments when youre not on the job. -Prevent hearing loss by wearing adequate protection in the form of high-quality earplugs or earmuffs. -Take breaks from the noise. Once your hearing is compromised, the damage is usually permanent. For this reason, its absolutely critical that you be proactive about preserving those sensitive nerves. hearingloss.ca #hearbetterlivebetter #protectyourhearing #noisyworld #earplugs
