So many of the challenges that we face in business or our personal lives come down to one thing... The mind The most powerful resource in the world to solve problems, overcome setbacks and achieve what we want out of life ... The power of the mind is real The struggle comes in how to use is to your advantage and not let it use you Way too often, the mind takes total control over our lives and we don’t know how to reverse it towards the positive end of the spectrum Over the next week, I’m going to break down different elements of unlocking the power of our minds and how to use it to our advantage in order to elevate our lives Anxiety is a topic I often talk about. It is one of the biggest challenges that we face on a daily basis How often has it knocked you and your mindset off track completely? That’s why, for this topic specifically I’m going to get some help from a friend This coming Tuesday November 17th Lindsey (@amazing.anxiety) and I will be going live here on Instagram to deep dive into the topic of the power of the mind and overcoming anxiety! How to handle unexpected things and still be present? It is easy for these situations to take us off track They did it to me for years. Constant distraction and lack of focus on what I wanted. I needed to change that. ... So, I started doing what I call the foundational 4 in handling these inevitable things that disrupt our daily rhythms: 1. Take a step back and breathe Your automatic, immediate reaction to a negative distraction or unexpected circumstance is going to be one of defence. You’ll feel your body heat up, and become tense. Box breathing is a technique that works really well for me (breathe in slowly for 4 seconds, hold it for 4 seconds and then breathe out slowly for 4 seconds). It’s simple and effective. 2. Make a decision Now that you’ve taken a step back and have your breathing in order it’s time to logically think of the best way to handle the situation. Make the decision you feel is best and go all in being present on that decision. Need to drop what you were doing and switch gears? Do that. Don’t need to give it your attention right away? Put it to the side and continue on with what you were doing. 3. Schedule and prioritize It’s so easy to become overwhelmed because now you have an extra thing on your already overflowing plate. Remember that singular focus is always the aim so it doesn’t matter how many things you have on your plate. This is where scheduling comes in key. Doesn’t need to be done right away? Maybe it can be pushed to next week? Put it in your schedule for next week and forget about it in that moment after it’s been pushed. Needs to be done immediately? Then push what you were doing before to another time or day. 4. Communicate Sounds simple. It’s not. It was the hardest thing for me to overcome. If you have too many things that need attention at one time it is going to continuously hijack you being in the present. Communicate with your boss, spouse, colleague or anyone else that may be adding to your plate. Come up with a plan to delegate, re-prioritize or delete completely. Are you going through day by day on auto pilot Here are a few questions to help you answer that: 1. Do you do things without thinking? ... 2. Does each day feel like the one before? 3. Do you have a hard time remembering things that you did even the day prior? 4. Are you unclear what’s important to you? 5. You don’t have goals that you are working towards? If you answered ‘yes’ to more than 1 of these, you’re on auto pilot most of the time This isn’t surprising, in fact it’s normal Just as recently as a few years ago I would have answered yes to every single one of them Most of us go through each day just like the last Subconsciously and without self-awareness or intentionality I know the feeling Being on auto pilot it’s a frustrating feeling Once you become aware is when you can start to make the changes necessary to turn auto pilot off It’s nice for pilots to turn it on to kick back and relax but it’s not for you in your life This is an important piece of becoming more present in your life as it starts with tuning into your conscious mind vs the unconscious mind I’m going to provide some ways to overcome this tomorrow but until then...
