I spy with my little eye: something that warmed my heart. I saw these kids (and adult) picking up garbage #downtownchatham. I thanked them and wished everyone would do a little act of kindness. You guys rock! @downtownchathambia
As part of our Halloween themed month, a few days each week we will be sharing ghost stories from Chatham-Kent. The majority of these ghost stories can be found... in the series "Ghosts of Chatham-Kent" by Shelia Gibbs. To start off our Hauntings of Chatham-Kent series, we thought we would begin with the building that houses the Chatham-Kent Museum, Thames Art Gallery and Kiwanis Theatre... the Chatham Cultural Centre. Truly who doesn’t want to read and write about a spirit that haunts your place of work. The story that is going to be related to you begins in the former Chatham Cultural Centre incarnation, the Hotel Senita. In the early 20th century, it is said that a woman was either murdered or committed suicide in the hotel and to cover it up a fire was set. It is this woman who it is believed that haunts the Cultural Centre’s Kiwanis Theatre’s balcony as well as the Mezzanine level of the Thames Art Gallery. According to newspaper reports from the 1970s facility staff witnessed a flash of light and felt the room strangely cool. Moreover, a worker during the same period is said to have received quite the fright when he was in the basement and saw an iridescent light. The gentleman described what he saw as a corpse-like figure hanging from the ceiling. In 2004, an article ran in the in the Chatham Daily News regarding staff members having unexplained experiences that can only be described as paranormal. They felt as though they were being watched and that their presence was unwanted. That's it for the Cultural Centre , until our next haunting #museumathome #Halloween
