The Yoga Gym 10.12.2020

I would have been waking up in Croatia this morning for our 8th @yogagymescapes retreat (this is a pic from our Italy retreat in 2018, where are my Italy cuties at?! ) I always arrive a day before the guests so I’m able to get everything organized for their arrival. The morning of retreat usually consists of many coffees outside, journaling, planning classes, a dip in a beautiful pool, finalizing excursions, time spent relaxing and unwinding with my hubby, all while I e...agerly await everyone’s arrival (I feel like an excited kid on Christmas morning!) I’m sure by this time in Croatia the guests would have been arriving, there would be reunions, hugs, new friendships forming and so many belly laughs. Wishing we could spend the evening with a glass of Croatian wine watching the sunset over stunning Mediterranean waters. I can’t wait for the day when it will be safe to travel again but also am insanely grateful for all the memories I’ve already created! How do you guys feel about traveling again? Once it’s safe will you be jumping on a plane right away or will you be waiting a bit to plan travel?! CONTROL I’m about to drop some major truth bombs for you. #wednesdaywisdom You can’t control anything external. Repeat that to yourself, I can’t control anything external. What can you control? YOU, your thoughts and actions! This is a huge one for a lot of us when this pandemic hit and our lives were literally flipped upside down with something we have no control over. I’ve noticed that things go much smoother when I give up control, allowing things to happen inst...ead of imposing my thoughts of how things should unfold. Unfortunately I’m terrible at this Sound familiar ?! I waste perfectly good energy trying to plan, predict or prevent things from happening - I know I’m not the only one.... here’s a couple things I’ve learned to better understand, so that you can practice the art of surrender and take control of your life: FEAR - we try to control because we are afraid of a certain outcome. Let that marinate for a while, think about all the times you’ve let fear control you (more on fear to come later in a future post.) Once you can recognize the fear you can start facing it. TRUST - Trust in the fact that you will be ok whatever comes your way, because micromanaging the universe sounds exhausting, right? Once we can let go of our grip on control we open ourselves up seeing different outcomes and possibilities we wouldn’t have seen before if we were fixated on one correct path. Combine both of these together and we can learn that surrendering our control/letting go of fear = complete acceptance of what is & trusting that everything will be ok without our input. Once you can master that you’ll have a lot more energy to put towards other things. Things that you can control. Like your efforts and your goals. Our energy budget per day isn’t unlimited, if you wonder why you feel exhausted everyday, it’s because you have spent most of your energy worrying about things you can’t control. Invest that energy into yourself and now you are really in control *mic drop* P.S. Rome wasn’t built in a day. Be patient, gentle and kind with yourself. Making shifts like this takes time, one step at a time baby. See more
