#COVID19 update Jan. 4/2021 B.C. is reporting 45 more deaths and 2,211 new cases of COVID-19 over a four-day period between Dec. 31, 2020, and Monday. The death toll is now 946. ... 64 of the new cases were announced in Island Health where we have 108 active cases now. There are 6,823 active infections in the province, including 351 people who are hospitalized, while more than 45,200 people have recovered from the illness. B.C. has so far received 54,625 doses of the two vaccines approved by Health Canada, with more doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine arriving in the province weekly. As of January 3rd, 24,139 individuals have been vaccinated. The goal is to have 150,000 vaccinated by the end of February. ~ Art in the newsroom

Health officials are reporting 941 new cases of COVID-19 in BC since Monday's briefing. That's a record high number of new cases reported in a span of 24 hours. 10 additional deaths have also been reported over this time, bringing the death toll to 358 during this pandemic. ... Most of the new cases were reported in the Fraser Health Region 678. In Island Health there were 11 new ones- now 152 active cases We have surpassed the 500 mark of cases discovered in Island Health (505). Earlier in the day, the province ordered all gymnastic centres, dance studios, martial arts venues and yoga studios in British Columbia to close immediately while new guidance is being developed. "We need to slow the spread of COVID-19 in our province and that needs to happen now, says Dr. Bonnie Henry in a release. **UPDATE** VIC-PD have made an arrest. Wsiaki was taken into custody in Hollywood Park in the Fairfield neighbourhood. Victoria police are looking for Chadwick Wsiaki 35, who could be armed and dangerous. He's wanted on Canada-wide warrants and is alleged to have assaulted a woman and brandished a machete Sunday in Stadacona Park.... Do not approach, call 911. ~ Art in the newsroom
