I believe humans are easily manipulated. I am also human. I believe we are susceptible to social cues, such as yawning, or mob behaviour. If one is to be positive in mind, (and consequently body and spirit), one should be diligent about which social cues you are subjected to. You are the culmination of the things you allow into your mind, regardless of their perceived moral value. ... As a suggestion, knowing that humans are easily susceptible to external input, you should smile at yourself in the mirror. Just like a yawn is contagious, smiling is also contagious. If you see someone yawn, you feel an urge to yawn yourself. Equivalently, when someone smiles, you feel an urge to smile. Perhaps beneficially, humans are easily manipulated, so you can take advantage of this. I believe your brain does not understand the difference between your smiling face, and any other smiling face. It simply registers that there is a face which is smiling. So, if you’re walking down the street and someone smiles at you, you feel the urge to smile back, even if you aren’t happy. If you DO smile back, this should trigger a chemical release which actively improves your mood. Similarly, if you smile at yourself in the mirror, you will feel better. Even if you fake smile at yourself, your brain can’t tell the difference and it will improve your mood. Anyway. My theory is that you should smile at yourself.
