Dear Patient and families, The administration, staff and physicans at TMC are carefully monitoring the situation with Coronavirus every day. Our top priority remains the health and wellbeing of our patients and their families. The TMC clinic is implementing all Public Health measures recommended by the Canadian and Ontario governments and will continue to do so moving forward. Below are current measures implemented in TMC in response to the Coronavirus situation: 1) All patie...nts entering TMC clinics will be asked to use hand sanitizers 2) Hospital grade disinfectants are used regularly in every waiting room and examination room to maintain a clean and germ-free environment 3) All patients entering the clinic will be actively screened including the following questions: -Any fevers -Any upper respiratory symptoms (cough, shortness of breath, sore throat) -Any relevant travel or high-risk contact history Those patients who have positive screens will be quarantined immediately in a safe place in the clinic until the Public Health office is contacted for further direction. Sick patients will be instructed to go immediately to their local emergency room. 4) Any patients who have any of the above conditions are asked to call in to the clinic before physically coming in to determine if their visit is essential, and if not they will be rebooked into a later appointment. 5) TMC will adopt any measures that may increase social distance to further reduce any risk of transmission. Through these measures and others that will be implemented based on the latest Public Health guidance, we are confident that TMC will remain a safe health care facility that will continue to provide excellent care for our patients.

If I recently traveled outside of Canada, what should I do? For travelers who have been to Hubei province (China) or Iran in the past 14 days: Contact local public health within 24 hours of their return to Canada, to arrange for monitoring, and... Self-isolate and stay at home for 14 days since last being in Hubei province (China) or Iran, and Self-monitor for fever, cough, or difficulty breathing. Please note that this advice is for all travelers returning from Hubei province (China) or Iran, regardless of whether or not they are currently experiencing symptoms. Should these individuals develop symptoms, they are to: Notify local public health immediately at 519-663-5317 (ask to speak to the Infectious Disease Control team), and Notify their healthcare provider prior to visiting any healthcare facility. All other travelers returning to Canada are advised to: Self monitor for fever, cough, or difficulty breathing for 14 days, and Avoid crowded places. Should any of these individuals develop symptoms of COVID-19 within 14 days of their return, they are to: Self-isolate immediately, and Notify local public health immediately for further assessment, and Notify their healthcare provider prior to visiting any healthcare facility. What can members of the public (including schools and workplaces) do to protect themselves? The best way to prevent infection is to avoid being exposed to this virus. As is the case with illnesses like influenza, everyday preventive actions can help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses, including: Staying home when you are sick. Washing your hands with soap and water often, for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. Avoiding touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands. Avoiding close contact with people who are sick. Covering your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throwing the tissue in the garbage. Cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces. Seeking medical care early if you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, and sharing your recent travel history with your healthcare provider Should I wear a mask to protect myself against COVID-19? Medical evidence does not support the need to wear a surgical or N95 mask for general, day-to-day activities. The World Health Organization (WHO) states that for individuals in the community without respiratory symptoms a medical mask is not required, as no evidence is available on its usefulness to protect people who aren’t already ill. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) only recommends face masks for people who are sick with the virus or believe they may be infected, and for people who live with or care for them.
