We would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to this amazing community again this year. To every volunteer, (food bank/kettles) donors, both ...corporate and individuals you have allowed us to have another successful Christmas campaign. To local businesses who opened your doors to us we are grateful for the opportunities you have provided our organization. In the middle of a chaotic pandemic, in a year when things had to be adapted and changed once again this City has proven its generosity over and over again. Your support allowed us to assist 400 families with Christmas this year- which represents 1136 individuals- adults and children! Thank you Lloydminster! May you all have a wonderful and blessed Christmas. Majors Bond & Marina Jennings Community Ministries Officer/Corps Officer

"Alberta is walking the walk, showing people that recovery is a real and attainable solution to addiction, and giving people real access to care. Addiction does not stop at our border. I encourage all Canadians to look closely at the new recovery system that is rolling out in Alberta. Our loved ones across the country deserve the same level of compassion and care."

Our maintenance team has been hard at work since early June making strides to complete the facilities Serenity Garden putting in tireless hours laying the path stone by stone. In addition, they help look after building, our 34 acres of property, and any needs that arise. Both have excellent attitudes, a smile on their face and are always willing to lend a helping hand. Thank you for all that you both do to keep our facility operational!

As the holiday season approaches, we will become overwhelmed with the number of events which may trigger drinking or drug use. Here is a tip on staying sober: Commit to a short visit. Set clear boundaries.

Many of us convince ourselves that if we only tried harder, we could have prevented our loved one’s problems. This is not the case. When we accept the situation and let go, we can begin to see, and love, others for who they are, rather than who we hope they will be. If this hits home, consider attending our Family Intensive to learn how you can move through codependency. Online sessions are running in November and December. Visit thorperecoverycentre.org/family-intensive to learn more.

We cannot change other people, places or things, but we can change ourselves. It takes wisdom & courage when we detach with love. We take the focus of the alcoholic & place it on ourselves. We focus on ourselves, we regain our power to make meaningful choices about what we do & don’t do. By making this shift in our thinking & actions, the world around us changes. What is detaching with love? Check out this article to learn more: https://www.verywellmind.com/understanding-detachment-63295

Special interest groups and media are demanding that the government start giving free narcotics to people struggling with addictions. Alberta’s government has t...aken a different approach: a huge expansion of detox and treatment beds, plus support for lifetime recovery. Here is a public letter from the organizations who actually help people escape the destructive trap of addiction. If it was a letter attacking our government for opposing the NDP’s free-drug agenda, it would probably be front page news. But you almost certainly won’t read about it in the media, because it endorses Alberta’s approach of compassionately expanding access to detox, treatment, and lifetime recovery programs

Our Family Intensive Online Workship is coming up on in just one month! Best yet, it's online so you can be anywhere to take it! Led by Certified Addictions Counsellors, the three day Family Intensive provides information and techniques that promote recovery for both the family and the addict. It can be incredibly confusing for someone who is not addicted themselves to understand someone else’s addictive behaviour. Therefore, the Family Intensive provides an opportunity for clients and their families, as well as families who have loved ones in active addiction, to gain a better understanding of their family of origin, current family systems, and begin healing together. Register now! http://ow.ly/UFbZ50BI4Uz

Our Sober Heroes have hung up their capes for another year, and boy what a year it was! We had over 60 participants and 11 teams across 3 provinces raise awareness that recovery is possible. Even 700 pairs of shoes made an incredible impact in the lives of those we serve. The Thorpe Recovery Centre wishes to thank each and every #TRCSoberHero, donor, for making this campaign a huge success.
