Despite the roller coaster that was 2020, by late fall an additional $50M had been generated to support Ontario Charitable Gaming Association (OCGA) participating organizations bringing them to the $300M milestone since the cGaming initiatives began. As a local partner, the Superior Shores Gaming Association continues to provide much needed supports to local charities through these unprecedented times.

Have you ever wondered how we can pinpoint when a garment was made? Aside from the stories of history that are donated with our objects, we can use garment shapes, construction techniques, as well as materials to help identify the true age of a garment. Over the next few Tuesdays, we'll tell you how we apply fashion history into identifying the fantastic clothes in our collection.... This evening at 7:30 pm! Online only! "The Thunder Bay Multicultural Association"... The presentation will focus on the history of the Thunder Bay Multicultural Association from its formation in 1972 under the name The Thunder Bay Council of Ethnic Organizations to the present immigrant service agency located at 17 Court St. N. in the old Court Street fire hall. The agency has a grassroots history in the community and has grown and evolved over time. Folklore Festival has been a part of the agencies’ activities since day one and began with the celebration of multiculturalism in the early 1970’s. With the Trudeau multiculturalism policy direction of October, 1971 and the increasing dialogue on culture and celebration, the organization began as a collective to foster multiculturalism and diversity. The history of immigration to Thunder Bay, a history of the organization and building, discussion of diversity and welcoming and a look at emerging groups and cultural/linguistic communities in the city will be touched on. How has Canada moved from an early approach of a food, folks and fun celebration of multiculturalism to the later focus on equal opportunity and integration. Check out our Website for more information and the link to view this lecture at: https://www.thunderbaymuseum.com//lecture-/cathy-woodbeck/ See you online! #freelectures #thunderbaymuseum #tbaymuseum #thunderbayhistory #history #onlinelecture #multiculturalassociation

It's the Hospital Switchboard from the first floor exhibit! This Switchboard was produced by Northern Electric Co. in 1954 and was used by Lakehead Psychiatric Hospital from 1954 until 1989. This switchboard could handle up to 30 calls at a time, and required an operator to manually connect them though. Did you guess it right?... Come see it in person on our first floor exhibit, or on our 360 tour available on our website! #whatisitwednesday #thunderbaymuseum #museum #thunderbay #nwo #hellotbay #thunderbaylocal #tbaymuseum #thunderbayhistory #localmuseums #thunderbaytourism

Meet our Board Members! This series will be showing each of the members who sit on the Thunder Bay Museum Historical Society. Meet Dr Michel Beaulieu! Hi, my name is Michel Beaulieu! I have been a member, donor, and volunteer for almost 25 years, and currently serve as a Vice-President of the Board of Directors. I first became involved while an undergraduate student at Lakehead University in the mid-1990s. What drew me to the museum back then is just as important as why I re...main involved today. How can we learn from and about the past, if we do not ensure that the information and materials are available for future generations? #ThunderbayMuseum #NWO #Localhistory

Meet the Board, this series will be showcasing all of our board members for the Thunder Bay Museum Historical Society! Meet Gillian Matson: Originally from Red Lake, I graduated from the Faculty of Law at Queen’s University in 2013 and was called to the Bar of Ontario in June, 2014. I joined CARREL+Partners as a summer law student in 2012 and returned as an articling student in 2013-2014. ... While in law school, I ran the PATHS Less Travelled Conference, an annual student run conference designed to educate students about the employment opportunities in rural and Northwestern Ontario. The conference also focused on the unique opportunities available working as in house counsel and as a sole practitioner. I was also a member of the Correctional Law Project where she represented inmates at Bath and Millhaven Institutions before the National Parole Board and the institutional disciplinary courts. I am currently practicing in the areas of Wills and Estates and Residential Real Estate. #Localhistory #NWO #Thunderbaymuseum
