3:30a FREEZING DRIZZLE ADVISORY ISSUED Oxford - Brant Areas of freezing drizzle are expected or occurring.... Freezing drizzle is ongoing across much of Southwestern Ontario early this morning. Hazards: Freezing drizzle. Timing: Freezing drizzle will continue into this morning before switching over to snow. Impacts: Dangerous driving conditions due to Black ice discussion: Freezing drizzle has been ongoing for much of the night at London airport & Hamilton airport. Additionally, a weather spotter reported Black ice on roads in ingersoll at 3:15AM: Snow is expected layer this morning...though accumulations should not be much, even small amounts of snow on top of Black ice can create dangerous driving conditions. Slow down driving in slippery conditions. Watch for taillights ahead & maintain a safe following distance. Freezing drizzle advisories are issued when drizzle falling in sub-zero temperatures is expected to freeze on contact, & over time create icy surfaces. Warnings 4:49 AM EST Friday 01 January 2021 Freezing rain warning in effect for: Brantford - County of Brant... Woodstock - Tillsonburg - Oxford County Freezing rain is expected or occurring. A prolonged period of freezing rain likely late this afternoon through tonight. Precipitation is forecast to begin as snow or ice pellets late this afternoon over parts of Southwestern Ontario before changing over to freezing rain by early this evening. Freezing rain may be mixed with ice pellets or rain at times. A prolonged period of freezing rain will bring measurable ice accretion to many areas. The freezing rain should transition to snow overnight. This precipitation is associated with a low pressure system moving north from Texas which will track near the south shore of Lake Erie tonight. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Ice build-up may cause tree branches to break. Utility outages may occur. Canada’s emergency alert system will be sending a test emergency alert across Ontario Wednesday afternoon. The alerts being issued by Alert Ready are part of a national test. Testing the national public alerting system is aimed at checking performance and reliability to ensure it operates as intended in the event of a life-threatening situation. Cellphone users, people watching television, and those listening to the radio can expect to see and hear the alert at 12:55 p.m. ES...T. People were urged to not call 911 after receiving the test alert.

Freezing rain is forecast to begin late Friday afternoon or early Friday evening over parts of southwestern Ontario and the Golden Horseshoe. Freezing rain may be mixed initially with rain or snow. A potential prolonged period of freezing rain could bring measurable ice accumulations to many areas. The freezing rain should transition to rain or snow later Friday night. This precipitation is associated with a low pressure system moving north from Texas.
