After a 26-hour flight, PILOT landed safely Wednesday (2019-09-25) morning just after 8h00AM (local time), almost 900km away from Timmins, in Quebec’s Cote-Nord region. The recovery team is on-site and working on the flight train. Their effort was slowed down Thursday by bad weather and no possible support from the helicopter, but should resume Friday with nicer weather in the forecast. Although this flight was shorter than initially planned, scientists are happy with results and measurements they were able to undertake. This flight completes one more successful campaign. It is now time to tackle upcoming campaigns and other initiatives surrounding stratospheric ballooning! The photo shows PILOT's parachutes in the trees at the landing site.
TSBB in the news .....
There were a few bumps in the road, but, nonetheless, NIMBUS-4 was launched this morning at 5h35AM (local time) in perfect conditions. It rose vertically (no winds) until it faded away in the night.
Start of inflation of the 800,000 cubic meter balloon that will carry the PILOT payload up for it's 20+ hour flight ...
